AEW Dynamite: Live Updates, Match Results, Highlights and Reaction from May 10

Doc-Chris MuellerMay 10, 2023

Welcome to Bleacher Report's live coverage of AEW Dynamite on May 10 from Detroit, Michigan.

This week had all of the usual action we have come to expect on Wednesday nights, but the biggest match on the card was definitely the main attraction.

Jon Moxley and Kenny Omega have been two of the most important wrestlers in all of AEW since its inception, but this time, a steel cage is their battleground.

Erik Beaston will still have you covered with the regular recap and grades, and this will be a space for a more detailed description of what happened during each match and segment,

The most recent segment will appear at the top, so keep refreshing throughout the night.

Jon Moxley vs. Kenny Omega

The main event of this week's show was a Steel Cage match between the leaders of The Elite and The Blackpool Combat Club.

Moxley didn't wait for Omega to enter the cage to start fighting. They brawled in the aisle until Castagnoli and Yuta came out to help. The Young Bucks came out to even the odds and drive them off. Bryan Danielson distracted them for a moment, but Nick Jackson took out both members of BCC with a dive from the stage.

The match finally got started when both men got into the cage and security made everyone else leave. They traded chops and punches in the middle of the ring until Omega hit a boot to the face.

Omega found a chair wrapped in barbed wire and nailed Moxley right in the head with it. He ended up hurting his own hand in the process. Mox was already bleeding before Omega started slamming his head into the turnbuckle.

Mox slammed Omega into the camera next to them and then gave it a kiss. Both men were bleeding from different spots on their bodies thanks to that chair, especially after Mox superplexed Omega on to it.

During the break, Moxley undid one of the turnbuckles and began to use it as a weapon, leaving the top rope hanging loose.

Omega survived being choked by the rope, so Moxley grabbed a bag of broken glass and dumped it all over the ring. Omega and Mox were dishing out their best stuff, but neither man would stay down. The crowd was chanting "This is awesome" as they started trading open-hand shots to the face.

Omega hit the V-Trigger and sent Moxley crashing through the cage wall to the outside. Omega was being looked at by doctors as Moxley got back to his feet and threw him back into the cage.

Omega got him up for the One-Winged Angle, but as he was about to make the pin, Don Callis attacked Omega with a screwdriver. Mox got the pin as everyone looked on in confusion.

Winner: Jon Moxley

House of Black vs. Bandido and Best Friends

The trios titles were on the line when The House of Black took on Best Friends and Bandido. This was the first bout contested under Open House rules.

  • 20-count outside the ring
  • No rope breaks
  • No DQs
  • Dealer's choice rule: Julia Hart banned from ringside

The house lights stayed down to give the match a different feel. Malakai Black and Bandido started for their teams with a predictably fast-paced exchange.

Bandido made the first tag to Chuck Taylor, who immediately tagged Trent Beretta so they could hit a triple-team combo. Brody King tagged in and cleaned house to send us into a commercial.

We returned to see Trent still on defense, but he eventually tagged in Bandido to take down Buddy Matthews with a big dive from the top rope.

Taylor tagged in, but he wasn't in the ring long before King hit him with Dante's Inferno for the win.

Winners: House of Black

Anna Jay vs. Julia Hart

As Julia Hart was making her entrance for this No Holds Barred match, Anna Jay attacked her from behind with a weapon.

Julia eventually turned the tables and used her own kendo stick to unload on her. They took the fight back out of the ring as the show went to a break.

We returned to see Julia putting a bunch of chairs in a pile. She tried to set something up, but Anna countered and dropped her on to the chairs face-first.

Anna kept trying to get the pin, but Hart kept kicking out. You could see Anna getting more and more frustrated as she put all of the chairs into the ring. She tried to suplex Julia on to them, but the HOB member wouldn't allow it.

She put Anna on the top turnbuckle and climbed up with her to hit a superplex. They just barely missed landing on the chairs, but Julia still got the win by submission afterwards.

Winner: Julia Hart

Christian Cage and Luchasaurus came out to talk about the upcoming TNT title match with Wardlow. Once again, Christian decided to insult someone's deceased father.

The crowd was giving Christian tons of heat and trying to drown him out as he spoke, but the veteran ate it up and just spoke louder so everyone had to listen.

Orange Cassidy vs. Daniel Garcia

After we saw Thunder Rosa return in a backstage segment, the International Championship was on the line when Daniel Garcia battled Orange Cassidy.

OC showed some technical skills early on while Garcia was trying to dance around like a sports entertainer. Red Death kept finding himself on the receiving end of Cassidy's antics no matter what he did.

Garcia hung him up on the top rope to send him crashing to the floor. Garcia threw him hard into the corner, and Cassidy rolled to the outside.

We returned from a break to see Garcia plant Cassidy's face into the mat with a curb stomp. OC hit the Stundog Millionaire but didn't hit the whole thing.

Garcia tried to apply a Sharpshooter but was kicked away by the champ. They began trading punches back and forth. Cassidy countered a piledriver, even though his hands were in his pockets, but he was unable to make an effective cover for the same reason.

Garcia applied the Dragontamer and sat back to apply the most pressure. Cassidy broke free but immediately wound up in a triangle submission. Garcia transitioned into a crossface and stomped on the injured hand.

Cassidy turned it into a pin and after they each reversed it, OC managed to keep him down for the pin to retain his title.

Winner: Orange Cassidy

FTR came to the ring and asked Mark Briscoe to join them, but they were joined by Jay Lethal, Jeff Jarrett and their cronies instead.

After they talked a little trash, Briscoe came out with some cups and alcohol to announce he would be the referee for their tag title match at Double or Nothing.

Lethal and Jarrett spit alcohol in their eyes, and in the melee, Dax hit Mark with a piledriver while he was blinded.

After Fenix vs. Castagnoli was over, Miro appeared backstage and immediately walked into Tony Khan's office.

Claudio Castagnoli vs. Rey Fenix

Dynamite kicked off with Claudio and Fenix already in the ring and ready to fight. The stipulation said that the winner will get a shot at the other man's ROH title.

Castagnoli put a stop to Fenix's momentum with a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. The Lucha Bro hit a few strikes and tried to hit a dive, but the ROH champion caught him in a press slam and dropped him on the barricade.

The powerhouse tried to carry him up the steps, but Fenix fought back and ended up hitting a hurricanrana from the barricade. Bryan Danielson and Wheeler Yuta could be seen backstage watching on a monitor as Castagnoli carried Fenix to the middle turnbuckle on his shoulders.

The high-flyer countered and hit a hurricanrana to take him down for a two-count. Claudio regained control and threw Fenix into the crowd as the show cut to a break.

Fenix hit a loud chop to the chest, but all it did was fire Claudio up. They traded a few more strikes before Fenix drilled him with a stiff superkick. He followed up with a rolling cutter for another near-fall.

They traded several two-counts as they continued building momentum toward the finish. Despite a great effort from Fenix, he was unable to kick out of the Ricola Bomb.

Winner: Claudio Castagnoli
