Minnesotans love hockey, and they love outdoor hockey even more. As a Minnesotan, I can assure you that the event would be perfect for the state.
The game could be played in TCF Bank Stadium. It's a new, good-sized stadium that would be perfect for the Winter Classic.
Fans would flock to the game, and it would be the best environment for any of the classics.
In addition, the Wild are pretty good. They may not be in a large market, but they are still fifth in the Western Conference.
They were leading the league in points just a few short weeks ago, proving that they can play with the elite. After a rough stretch, they have fallen back slightly. Still, they are a young team that will only get better.
Plus, the Wild will be able to play some good teams. There are exciting matchups that fans would love to see.
They could play the Chicago Blackhawks, putting two of the best Western Conference teams together, while trying to prove themselves against their rival.
Or, they could play the Dallas Stars, a matchup I would love to see.
The Stars used to be the Minnesota North Stars, and Minnesotans still don't like that they left the state. While the Wild have plenty of fans, people are still bitter about the North Stars leaving.
It was sweet revenge when the Wild knocked the Stars out of the playoffs last year, and this could help that rivalry grow. If the Wild faced the Stars, it would be a matchup with historic implications.
Minnesota is a great place. The Wild are a good team, and the matchups would be great for everyone.
So, please, NHL, bring the 2013 Winter Classic to Minnesota.
