Triple H Restores Order, Bronson Reed Trending Up and More WWE Raw Takes

Kevin BergeApr 11, 2023

The April 10 edition of WWE Raw featured a return-to-form performance from the company, focusing on the in-ring product across the red brand.

After Lita was attacked by an unknown assailant, Trish Stratus stepped up to team with Becky Lynch but then cost them the WWE Women's Tag Team Championships. In the aftermath, she also attacked The Man, turning heel in the process.

Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez took advantage to claim the women's tag titles, but WWE still needs to build the credibility of the belts. It is unclear if the new champions are the ones to do it.

Iyo Sky put herself on course for a shot at the Raw Women's Championship, but it was only after Bayley gave up her opportunity for Damage CTRL. The group seems to be struggling.

Bobby Lashley and Bronson Reed collided in the ring, and nothing could stop their battle, including the referee's count. The two were both counted out this time, but they should get another chance to fight soon.

Monday's show was loaded with forward momentum, building stories that can extend into Backlash on May 6 and beyond.

WWE Raw Much Improved With Triple H at the Helm

1 of 5

Last week's Raw was one of its worst episodes in a long time.

According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Vince McMahon was "heavily involved" in that edition of the red brand, which was marked by a number of "late rewrites."

SmackDown was a big improvement on Friday, though, returning to stories built over previous months in WWE. But Raw needed to throw out much of what happened on the Raw after WrestleMania to move forward.

Matt Riddle was back and focused on The Bloodline rather than The Miz, a potential Raw Women's Championship contender was found, and meaningful matches were built into the three-hour night.

It was a great rebound event that also kept momentum from WrestleMania 39. Cody Rhodes' popularity remains in tact as he built up his match with Brock Lesnar, and The Judgment Day continue to torment Rey Mysterio.

While WWE did change the card several times based on what was advertised and what was delivered, hopefully it will find a way back to a clear plan going forward every week.

Save Becky Lynch vs. Trish Stratus Payoff For SummerSlam

2 of 5

Becky Lynch had a bad night on Raw. Her tag team partner, Lita, was attacked backstage, she lost the WWE Women's Tag Team Championships to Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez, and Trish Stratus turned on her and laid her out.

It all sets the stage for the next major feud for The Man. She will face the WWE Hall of Famer, who has clearly returned from retirement to tell a story with Lynch.

These two women are arguably the biggest female stars of their respective eras, and both are considered among the most important women in WWE history.

Assuming Stratus is coming back healthy and motivated, she can tell a top-notch story with Lynch that will elevate the entire women's division.

It can genuinely be the women's division equivalent of Hulk Hogan vs. The Rock, The Rock vs. John Cena or Ric Flair vs. Sting. It is a legend potentially passing the torch in her last big story.

This story should not end at Backlash, Queen of the Ring or Money in the Bank, though. WWE must let it breathe over the next few months and then have it culminate in an unforgettable women's match at SummerSlam.

If Stratus is committed for longer, maybe it could even go beyond August 5.

WWE Women's Tag Team Division is Still a Problem

3 of 5

The women's tag team division has new champions once again. Becky Lynch and Lita promised to bring new credibility to the division but instead lost the gold in their first defense.

Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez captured the belts, completing a brief pursuit of the titles after both had dumped their previous teammates.

They are passionate performers with a high ceiling for success and have chemistry as a tag team due to their size difference. But they still don't have credibility as a team.

The division needs clear tandems that remain together. After Morgan and Rodriguez lose the gold, will they move onto new partners again? There isn't enough tying the two together beyond the titles they carry.

WWE must make a concerted effort to stick with the tag teams it establishes.

Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler will be a dangerous threat to the champions, but teams such as Sonya Deville-Chelsea Green and Natalya-Shotzi can be the same with more build.

Iyo Sky Better Off Without Damage CTRL

4 of 5

Damage CTRL was created as a stable to build new top talent in the women's division. Bayley had a plan to elevate underused stars, settling on Iyo Sky and Dakota Kai.

While the group has not risen to its potential, it has made Sky and Kai two-time women's tag team champions and a regular presence on WWE television.

This will help them thrive after breaking up with Bayley. That story is already building. Sky and Kai made The Role Model give up a title opportunity to The Genius of the Sky, leading to her winning a potential shot at Bianca Belair and the Raw women's title.

As Sky prepares for the biggest singles match of her main roster career, she can hopefully begin to build a legacy as a true top act as she was in NXT.

While Bayley will do well no matter what and Kai may take longer to hit her stride, The Genius of the Sky has been ready since her Raw debut.

The quickest way to get her to the top is by splitting up Damage CTRL in the WWE draft. Sky can then build a legacy of her own before setting up a money match against The Role Model.

Bronson Reed is About to Level Up

5 of 5

Bobby Lashley is a force in WWE. No one carries themselves with quite the same dominance as The All Mighty, who rivals Roman Reigns in terms of credibility.

Working with him in any way is a big deal, and it will elevate Bronson Reed, even if he does not get a single win over Lashley.

Their first match on Monday was a rousing success. The crowd was completely behind this battle of big men, even when it ended in an inconclusive result.

Reed has needed a chance like this since he returned to WWE in December. He was underused on The Road to WrestleMania and missed the marquee event completely.

If this story with Lashley is done right, the Australian can leave it looking more dangerous than ever.

Reed could be a serious threat to Austin Theory or Gunther in the near future. Roman Reigns may be a bit out of reach in 2023, but that doesn't mean he can't go after a world title next year.
