2012 Capital One Bowl: Streaking Gamecocks Set To Handily Take Down Cornhuskers
In what arguably has the makings to be one of the more exciting bowl games remaining, the 2012 Capital One Bowl will feature the No. 9 South Carolina Gamecocks finishing off the No. 20 Nebraska Cornhuskers in dominating fashion.
This game features a story of momentum swings, as there are two teams clearly headed down opposite paths.
The Gamecocks (10-2) come into this game winning six of its last seven games, with the one 44-28 loss coming at No. 7 Arkansas in Week 10.
The streak includes wins at Mississippi State as well as a dominant home victory over the No. 17 Clemson Tigers to finish off the season on a high note.
Meanwhile, Nebraska has won just two of its last four games to end the year. The two losses came to an unranked Northwestern team at home and a 45-17 blowout-loss at the hands of No. 18 Michigan on the road.
The team's more evident weakness as of late has been an inability to score enough points to win games.
As sound as this Cornhuskers team has been defensively all season long, it is a team that hasn't been able to get the job done due to their inconsistent play on offense.
Nebraska are known for their dominant running game. The team currently ranks No. 14 on the ground with 223.9 rushing yards gained per game. Yet it is a number that has recently taken a hit, as three of their last four games have been held to 188 yards or fewer.
In all of the team's last four games, the Cornhuskers recorded less than the 223.9 average on the season. Talk about a concern going forward.
The Gamecocks feature the No. 13 defense in college football when it comes to points allowed, as they allow just just 18.8 points per contest. In the team's last three games, the team has allowed a total of just 45 points. Making the feat all the more impressive is that one of these games came against Clemson, who feature the No. 24 offense in the league in points scored per game.
A hot defense taking on a struggling Cornhuskers offense has all signs pointing to a Gamecocks victory in the 2012 Capital One Bowl.
