2012 NFL Draft Order: Redskins in Prime Position to Grab Robert Griffin III

Ryan RudnanskyJun 7, 2018

Now that the 2012 NFL draft order has been determined for the non-playoff teams, it's time to start centering in on who will land where.

Baylor quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III has garnered widespread buzz around the nation this season.

The Washington Redskins, on the other hand, have not.

However, the Redskins—barring any draft-day trades—will have the No. 6 overall pick, and it's likely Griffin will fall in their lap.

Ahead of the Redskins in the 2012 NFL draft are, in order: The Indianapolis Colts, St. Louis Rams, Minnesota Vikings, Cleveland Browns and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Colts will likely take Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck. The Vikings and Browns could take quarterbacks, but I see them addressing offensive tackle and running back respectively instead.

This means that the Redskins, who currently have to live with quarterbacks Rex Grossman and John Beck, should have the opportunity to grab Griffin.

I can't see why they wouldn't, especially with USC quarterback Matt Barkley saying he will stay in school for one more year. The Redskins showed great strides this season on defense behind 2011 first-rounder Ryan Kerrigan, but averaged just 18.0 points per game. They are in desperate need of a franchise quarterback.

Griffin has shown great arm strength, accuracy, poise and decision-making ability this season for the Bears. What's more, he played even better when the pressure mounted, evidenced by his 34-yard beauty to receiver Terrance Williams to beat Oklahoma in the closing seconds on Nov. 19.

Redskins fans may have finally found their savior.
