Max Duggan's NFL Potential Questioned by Fans After Being Outshined at Senior Bowl

Rob GoldbergFeb 4, 2023

Several players stood out at the 2023 Senior Bowl as the National team earned a 27-10 win over American team, but it was a day to forget for TCU's Max Duggan.

The Heisman Trophy runner-up was the biggest name in the competition and had a chance to improve his stock on Saturday at Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile, Alabama. He instead finished 4-of-9 for 26 yards, featuring some missed throws and a brutal fumble.

Fans were quick to criticize the struggling quarterback throughout the game:

Duggan fared better in the lead-up to the Senior Bowl and was voted the Practice Player of the Week by his peers, showcasing the skills that helped TCU reach the national championship game.

However, he wasn't listed among the top 150 players in the draft by Bleacher Report's Scouting Department, and he likely didn't help himself on Saturday.

Louisville quarterback Malik Cunningham had an up-and-down day, responsible for some of the game's biggest plays for both teams.

Cunningham also had a one-yard rushing touchdown in an eventful day before leaving with an apparent injury.

Fresno State's Jake Haener had a game-high 139 passing yards and a touchdown, while Houston's Clayton Tune and Tyson Bagent out of Division II Shepherd also got a chance under center and fared better than Duggan.

Outside of the quarterback position, Northwestern running back Evan Hull thrived with 74 rushing yards on 10 carries. Stanford's Michael Wilson caught the game's only receiving touchdown, while Jalen Wayne of South Alabama had eight receptions for the American team.

Defensively, Bowling Green defensive lineman Karl Brooks, Florida A&M linebacker Isaiah Land and Virginia cornerback Anthony Johnson had strong showings to help their draft stocks.
