NFL Playoff Predictions: Which Team Is This Year's Green Bay Packers?

Adam SpencerJan 1, 2012

Last year, a 10-6 Green Bay Packers team made the playoffs as the second wild card team in the NFC. Four road playoff victories later, they were Super Bowl champions.

A feat like that doesn't happen every year, but when it does, it's really exciting (unless your team loses to them).

So, which wild card team has the best chance of being this year's Packers?

Let's take a quick look at each wild card team.

Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons rely on a balanced offensive attack, with Michael Turner and Matt Ryan leading the way.

But, they don't have the big-play ability the Packers had last year, and that could end up hurting them in the playoffs.

Also, their defense is prone to giving up a lot of points. Add together all those factors and it's unlikely that the Falcons can match the Packers' magical run in last year's playoffs.

Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals snuck into the playoffs thanks to a strong defense and a sneaky-good young offense.

But, when your offense relies heavily on two rookies (Andy Dalton and A.J. Green), it's unlikely that you'll make it all the way to the Super Bowl.

The Bengals are heading in the right direction as a franchise, but they are still a couple years away from being legitimate Super Bowl contenders.

Detroit Lions

The Lions are the closest wild card team to the 2010 Packers in terms of offensive ability.

Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson are absolute beasts, and the defense can put a lot of pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

But, without being able to play in the friendly, temperature-controlled confines of Ford Field, the Lions might struggle.

If they can handle the elements of Lambeau Field in January, they have a chance to make it to the Super Bowl, but they don't have the best chance of repeating Green Bay's run.

Pittsburgh Steelers

The wild card team with the best chance of making it to the Super Bowl is the team that made it there last season before losing to the Packers.

The Steelers are a veteran team that won't be affected by having to win three games on the road.

Ben Roethlisberger is a big-game quarterback, and the defense will turn it up a notch for the playoffs.

Their playoff experience will give them an edge, and it makes them the 2012 wild card team with the best chance of matching the 2010 Packers.
