2012 NFL Draft Order: Top Destinations for Draft's Best Quarterbacks

Austin GreenJun 7, 2018

Matt Barkley is returning to USC, but there are still several quality quarterbacks available in the upcoming NFL draft.

The draft order for the top half of the first round is officially set, so it's a little easier to speculate about where the top quarterback prospects will go.

Here are the most likely destinations the draft's best signal-callers.

Andrew Luck

Andrew Luck going first overall has been a foregone conclusion for months now. However, with Robert Griffin III skyrocketing up draft boards, Luck may not be the top pick after all.

With the success of dual-threat quarterback Cam Newton, the Indianapolis Colts may opt for the more athletic Griffin III.

If the Colts do pass on Luck, don't expect him to fall farther than second overall. The St. Louis Rams already have a young franchise quarterback, but the Washington Redskins, Miami Dolphins and Arizona Cardinals will all be dying to trade up.

Still, despite Griffin III's recent rise, I would be shocked if the Colts pass on Luck.

Robert Griffin III

It's tough to tell where the Heisman trophy winner will be drafted because his stock has soared so quickly.

The Redskins would love to pick him up with the seventh overall pick, but they should be worried about the Dolphins, Cardinals and Seahawks trading up to get him.

Washington needs a quarterback more than anybody in the NFL. After predictably awful performances by Rex Grossman and John Beck, the Redskins desperately need an upgrade.

There's no way Griffin III falls past No. 7.

Jones hasn't decided if he will enter the draft this year, which is a smart move considering his current stock.

If he does leave Oklahoma, he'll likely be drafted in the middle of the first round. Kansas City and Seattle will flip a coin to see who gets the 11th pick in the draft. Both teams could use some help at quarterback and should give Jones a look.

The Dolphins are also desperate for a quarterback, but Jones isn't worth a top 10 pick. If they're certain that the Seahawks and Chiefs won't draft him, Miami would be smart to trade into the 13-17 range.

The complete first round draft order won't be known until after the playoffs, but the top 20 picks are (almost) officially set. Here is the current 2012 draft order.

1. Indianapolis Colts (2-14)
2. St. Louis Rams (2-14)
3. Minnesota Vikings (3-13
