Packers' Top Options With No. 15 Pick in 2023 NFL Draft

Joe TanseyJan 11, 2023

The Green Bay Packers offense could go through a large amount of change in the offseason.

Allen Lazard, Randall Cobb and Robert Tonyan could all leave in free agency.

That could open the possibility of the Packers adding to their young core of Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs.

The Packers may be better off letting some of Aaron Rodgers' favorite targets leave because there are some younger options at wide receiver and tight end that could be available in the first round of the 2023 NFL draft.

Green Bay sits right in the middle of the first-round order at No. 15, where a run on wide receivers could happen, or where the top tight end prospect will be available.

Michael Mayer, TE, Notre Dame

Michael Mayer is a popular pick in mock drafts for the Packers.

Pro Football Focus' Michael Renner and Sporting News' Vinnie Iyer both projected the 6'4", 251-pound tight end to go to the Packers at No. 15.

Mayer had 138 receptions in his last two seasons at Notre Dame. He had over 800 receiving yards in each season and 16 total touchdowns as a sophomore and junior.

Mayer would be a terrific replacement for Robert Tonyan, if he leaves in free agency.

The Packers need to have a dominant threat across the middle for Aaron Rodgers, or whoever the new quarterback would be in 2023.

The potential addition of Mayer would allow the Packers to have three young targets in him, Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs to build around not only for 2023, but in the coming years when the Packers need to rebuild at quarterback after Rodgers.

Jalin Hyatt, WR, Tennessee

Green Bay should have a handful of wide receivers available at No. 15.

The Packers coaching staff and front office have to sift through the top prospects to find the best fit for their system and to complement the personnel that will be back in 2023.

Tennessee's Jalin Hyatt broke out in his junior season with 1,267 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns.

Hyatt had five 100-yard performance and a quintet of contests with multiple touchdowns for the Volunteers this season.

Hyatt would give the Packers another big playmaker in the wide receiving corps, and he could have a similar impact as Watson did in the second half of the 2022 season.

A wide receiver would be a good option for the Packers at No. 15 if Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb both depart in free agency, whether it is because of money or Green Bay's preference to get younger.

Quentin Johnston of TCU, Ohio State's Jaxon Smith-Njigba and USC's Jordan Addison could be among the options at No. 15 as well depending on how the first round shakes out.

Peter Skoronski, OT, Northwestern

Green Bay could also take the safe route in the first round by taking an offensive lineman.

Northwestern's Peter Skoronski is one of the best blockers in the draft class.

The Packers could look at Skoronski as a replacement for Yosh Nijman, who is one of the many players set to hit free agency.

Green Bay has Zach Tom on the roster already. The Packers could be willing to give him a shot to start on the offensive line, but they could also land one of the premier interior players in the draft class.

The NFC North squad should go after an offensive player regardless of the position because of how many players could leave in the offseason.
