Tim Tebow: Inept Game Plan To Blame for 3-Game Losing Streak

Adam SpencerJun 7, 2018

Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos didn't beat the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, but they still made the playoffs thanks to a loss by the Oakland Raiders.

They got lucky getting into the postseason, but they're going to have to change their game plan if they want to actually win now that they're in.

In Sunday's ugly 7-3 loss to the Chiefs, Tim Tebow only carried the ball six times for 16 yards. That's going to have to change if the Broncos want to beat the Pittsburgh Steelers next weekend.

Tebow's main job is just to be the facilitator for the No. 1-rated rushing attack in the NFL, but he still needs more than six carries. John Fox and the Broncos coaching staff shouldn't be worried about Tebow getting hurt by carrying the ball.

If they don't want him to run because they're afraid he's going to get hurt, then what's the point of having him at quarterback?

He's clearly not an NFL-level passer, so if the Broncos think he is going to develop into one, they're lying to themselves.

The benefit of having Tebow at quarterback is that he is a punishing runner who is also smart enough to make the right decision on nearly every zone read and option play.

The only thing he brings to the table in the passing game is that he's a decent passer when the other team isn't expecting it. And with the way the Broncos run the ball, the play-action pass should be much more effective than it is right now.

The point is this: Tebow should be carrying the ball at least 15 times a game. He's shown in college that he can handle the punishment, and that's the only way the Broncos will ever be successful with him at quarterback.

Sixteen yards on six carries isn't going to cut it in the playoffs. If the Steelers know they can get away with just focusing on the Denver running backs, it could get pretty ugly for Tebow and company.

But, if the Broncos can keep the defenders guessing and they get a little bit of that patented Tebow magic, they might just be able to pull off a major upset and advance in the playoffs.

It starts with the coaching staff though. If they don't change, there's no chance the Broncos will advance.
