2012 NFL Draft Order: Jaguars Accomplish Nothing in Season-Ending Victory

Eric BallJun 7, 2018

Congratulations Jacksonville, you just screwed yourselves.

By beating the Indianapolis Colts, 19-13, the Jaguars finish the season 5-11 and dropped at least three spots in the 2012 draft while allowing the Colts to claim the No. 1 overall pick.

The Jags will now be forced to play Andrew Luck for the next decade, a quarterback some experts are comparing to John Elway. The Jags essentially ensured the end of the Peyton Manning Era.

The ramifications for the win are tremendous, and none of them are positive.

Instead of getting a top-five pick with the opportunity to select can’t-miss wide receiver Justin Blackmon, the Jags will likely draft another overrated defensive end that will be out of the league within the next three years. They’ll likely have the sixth selection assuming the Steelers beat the Browns.

The bigger issue is Luck.

While Manning could very well have a bounce-back 2012, his neck injury is a huge issue that may very well handicap the future Hall of Famer for the rest of his career. Nerve regeneration is a natural process and it’s not happening right now for Manning.

Now the Colts wouldn’t have to take that gamble if they select Luck.

Was it worth it, Jacksonville? Was it worth it to finish the season 5-11 instead of 4-12?

Sure the word "pride" gets thrown around quite a bit when talking about tanking games, but this was more of a strategic move to make. The Jags would have a brighter outlook in the AFC South with a loss to their division rival.

It could have been a completely different ballgame if only the Jags had lost.
