WWE: Could Chris Jericho Be Headed for a Feud with Brock Lesnar?

David LevinJan 3, 2012

Let me be the first one to admit I am not a fan of Brock Lesnar. Never have and never will be. I appreciate his amateur background and his physical talents. But besides a smoking hot wife (Sable), I see nothing in the man other than an athlete who cannot make it in the world of MMA.

That said, the abilities of Lesnar lead me and other fans and writers to think he could be headed back to the WWE at some point and because of story posted on mmamania.com, I have reason to believe a feud with Chris Jericho may be part of the bigger picture.

Understand, this is not a situation like The Rock calling out John Cena and the two building for an epic battle at WrestleMania 28 (OK, we pray it will be epic). This stems from the comments Jericho made after Lesnar lost a first-round UFC contest to Alistair Overeem.

Recently, there have been rumors circulating about Lesnar, a former WWE champion, returning to the company, but those were refuted by Jim Ross on mmamania.com's website on Tuesday. However, with everything in wrestling, until it truly happens, or in this case, doesn't happen, that is when we can believe it.

I personally would like to see a feud of some kind of magnitude that would set the 2012 year on its ear early and often. Too often, wrestling creative teams take too long to build an arc and rivalries are slow to develop. Christian/Randy Orton and John Cena/CM Punk are the exception to the rule of late. I see Jericho challenging CM Punk for the WWE Title and soon, which hurts the rise of superstars Dolph Ziggler and The Miz.

But an angle with Lesnar and Jericho is an interesting one.

Lesnar, the wound-licking former wrestler coming back to the company that made him a household name, trying to avenge his name and legacy which has been tarnished by Jericho's words and possibly some really great vignettes.

I think it works. It also does something cool in that while it puts too veterans against each other, it does not upset the  rise of younger talent that would otherwise be left out of the WWE Title picture if Jericho is feuding with CM Punk, which we all know will happen some time soon.

While I think a return to the WWE is not such a good thing for Lesnar, the WWE needs him now because of injuries to top stars such as Alberto Del Rio, Randy Orton, Christian, Sin Cara and Rey Mysterio. It's one of the scenarios where if Lesnar came calling, the WWE would have to pick up the phone and listen.

But until then, we can only think of what would happen if these two superstars were to collide.
