2012 NFL Draft: Robert Griffin III Enters Draft to Rival Andrew Luck as Top QB

While Andrew Luck may be the unquestioned No. 1 overall draft pick in the 2012 NFL draft, Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III is giving the Stanford standout a run for his money.

Griffin won the Heisman on his stellar pocket presence and passing abilities, as well as his ability to break the pocket and run the ball. Like a Tim Tebow that can pass.

There have been serious questions about whether the junior would come back for his senior year at Baylor, but there is no better time for the young star to make his move to the NFL.

Strike while iron is hot, as they say.

The belief in agent circles is that Griffin will decide to enter the draft.  Per a source with knowledge of the situation, multiple agents are trying to get themselves in position to be hired by Griffin.  Last month, a report surfaced that Griffin’s parents were interviewing agents.

It is very true that Andrew Luck is exactly what people want when they think of the prototypical NFL quarterback, but RGIII is so much more than that. Draft expert Matt Miller breaks down why Griffin was great this season.

If Indianapolis remains with the top pick in the draft, they will almost certainly take Andrew Luck to be the heir apparent to the Peyton Manning throne, but after that, it’s a crapshoot.

Teams like the Washington Redskins and the Jacksonville Jaguars will be very interested in RG3, but there could be some surprise teams that feel he could honestly be the best QB in this draft. Those teams may be willing to trade up high into the first round like Atlanta did last season for Julio Jones.

Griffin needs to come out this season because his season was so great at Baylor that anything less would hurt his stock. His family is smart enough to know that.
