Virginia Cavaliers Uniforms: Wahoos Dazzle in Orange Ensemble

Michael DixonDec 31, 2011

Virginia certainly knows how to make an impression. Granted, if you don't know what game you're watching, you might not know that Virginia is the team playing against Auburn.

But once you get past that little problem and focus on the actual look, it's a pretty good style.

The orange helmet is a nice little nod to the past. It's always refreshing to see teams do that, especially in bowl games. Younger people are watching, and they may not be completely aware of the school's past.

So, wearing something that pays tribute to it is an excellent way to get the fans to look up some of the school's football history.

Looking at the jerseys and pants, the look works. I am surprised that I am saying this, but I love it.

Normally, I like a color on either the pants or the jerseys, and then white on either the pants or the jerseys. The solid look is ridiculous. Two colors would normally scream "high school" to me, but that is not the case here.

It's a sharp look. Maybe it's the opponent. Auburn is wearing their regular home, navy blue jerseys. The fact that their opponents are also wearing a color is a nice throwback. It reminds me of the old USC vs. UCLA games.

The orange look is not new for Virginia. They have worn it before, although it's certainly an uncommon look. Breaking out special jerseys on special occasions is always cool. Frankly, even if the uniform doesn't work, it's something that's nice to see.

Where it gets annoying is when schools like Oregon have a different uniform every game. Maryland did something similar this season. It's hard to take a lot of pride in the school's colors are when that happens.

Michigan is the "Maize and Blue." Ohio State is "Scarlet and Gray." What's Oregon? Technically, they are green and gold, but they don't often wear those colors.

But here, Virginia is doing something that they don't often do, for a special game. In doing so, they're not forsaking their school's colors. Instead, they're only honoring the colors, and honoring the past of the school at the same time.

The Cavaliers deserve a nice tip of the cap for this one.
