New York Jets Have a Good Chance To Make Playoffs

John NizinskiDec 31, 2011

This 2011 season has been a disappointment for the New York Jets.

After back-to-back AFC championship games, the Jets are struggling to get into the playoffs.

Since Rex Ryan and Mark Sanchez became apart of the Jets, they have had some luck when it comes to the playoffs.

In 2009, the Jets got in by the skin of their teeth. They are going to need help like they got in '09 in order to make the playoffs this year, but it's far from impossible.

Beat the Dolphins

1 of 4

The Miami Dolphins started off this season rough.

They started the season with seven straight losses, including one loss to the Jets. After that, they won four out of their next five games and have been playing better football as of late.

The Jets should have their foot pressed fully on the gas and should not let the Miami Dolphins, a division rival, crush their playoff aspirations.

One thing that's scary, is that it's Jason Taylor's last game because he's retiring.

If it wasn't enough motivation to block a division rival from making the playoffs, they're going to try and get a win for their longtime leader.

Need Broncos or Raiders To Lose

2 of 4

The Jets need either the Raiders or the Broncos to lose because the Jets lost to both teams this season.

The Broncos are playing the Chiefs and are on a two-game losing streak. Tim Tebow's strange magic is wearing off.

The Chiefs quarterback will be Kyle Orton, who was the Broncos starting quarterback to start the year. Expect Orton to be extremely motivated for this game and try to stick it to his old team.

The Raiders are playing the underachieving Chargers. The Raiders have only one win in their last four games and have not done too well with Carson Palmer as their quarterback.

The Chargers have been playing well of late, not including the loss to the Lions last week.

All the Jets' needs is for one of these teams to win.

Need Bengals To Lose

3 of 4

Plain and simple, the overachieving Cincinnati Bengals are playing against one of the best teams in football—the Baltimore Ravens.

The Ravens want to win this game in order to get home-field advantage and a possible bye in the first week, so don't expect them to take the Bengals easy.

Need Titans To Lose

4 of 4

The biggest thing standing in the Jets' way is the Tennessee Titans.

The Titans are playing the Houston Texans who are on a two-game losing streak and without their starting quarterback Matt Schaub.

This game could go either way and is probably the biggest threat for the Jets to make the playoffs.

Chris Johnson should not be able to have a good game against a solid defensive team.

The Titans have one win in there last three games, including a loss to the Colts
