People Think It’s Easy Being a New York Yankees Fan, but It’s Not!

Everyone seems to think being a Yankee fan is so easy, but it’s not true at all. Our team has won 26 rings, 39 AL pennants, and is considered the best franchise in all of sports. What does that mean now?

We can all look back at those championships and say how great those teams were, but nowadays it’s all about what have you done for me lately. The Yankees haven’t won the World Series since 2000 against the Mets.

Anything short of a World Series title is no good in a lot of fans' minds. Yankee fans are spoiled..there is no arguing that, but that doesn’t make us worse then anyone else. The fans don’t control the team, so don’t blame us for the decisions the organization makes. I have been a Yankee fan my entire life.

The first memorable moment I saw was Charlie Hayes catching the last out of the 1996 World Series when I was five years old. They went on to win in '98,'99, and '00. Some fans don’t get to see one win in their lifetime..so you shouldn’t take it for granted.

People say being a Yankees fan doesn’t take any work. How can you say that? Yankee fans get bashed for everything. We get made fun of because of Hank Steinbrenner’s big mouth, the Yankees choking against the Red Sox, and not winning a championship in the last eight years with a payroll exceeding $200 million.

Yankee fans have to constantly stand up and defend the team. We are even hated in our own town by Mets’ fans.

Agony - 2004 ALCS choke against the Red Sox

Frustration - Yankees missing the playoffs in 2008

Heartbreak - Bloop Single by Luis Gonzalez to win the ‘01 WS

These are some typical things you would hear people say about the Yankees…

Yankees Suck!, I see the Yankees are back to their free-spending ways, You’re a spoiled Yankee fan…

I don’t know about you guys, but it seems like fans are bashing the Yankees more and more about spending when they have been doing this for so long. This started happening when Steinbrenner took over the team in 1973, which was 35 years ago! People are both jealous of the Yankees and they despise them. They win and lose on the biggest stage in the world. I guess that comes with being a fan of the Evil Empire.

I will always be a Yankee fan no matter what. I’m not the type of person who would turn to another team because I’m disgusted with a few moves the team made. I’m proud to be a Yankees fan. The Yankees have some of the most passionate fans in the world. Go Yankees!

Need some reasons to hate the Yankees?

Check out this great story about the Yankees helping out a 13-year old cancer patient.

But his spirits were lifted by a phone call he received earlier this week from Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlain.

"

”Zach was so excited and when the phone call ended, he just cried,” said Chuck Frantz, president of the LVYFC and a close family friend.

He also received a special e-mail from Yankee Hall of Famer Yogi Berra.

The letter was filled with spelling and grammatical errors, so you knew it was really Yogi.

It began, ”This is Yogi Berra … seriously.” At the end of the letter, Berra wrote: ”All I ask is you never give up, be brave, always keep the faith. Zach, you have to believe. If you do, I believe you’ll be OK.” And he ended it ”God bless, Yogi Berra.”
