Braun Strowman's Familiar Return, Dexter Lumis Strikes Again, More WWE Raw Takes
On the back of Clash at the Castle, WWE Raw continued the momentum in a night that moved stories to the next level.
Braun Strowman made a surprise return, attacking several members of the tag team division during a No. 1 Contender's match.
Dexter Lumis got involved in the main event, costing The Miz the United States Championship in his steel cage match with Bobby Lashley.
Bayley made a threatening promise to Bianca Belair that she would take the Raw Women's Championship from her in a memorable promo.
Rey Mysterio refused to fight Dominik Mysterio, even after his son attacked him and Edge. Dominik ended up costing his father a match with Damian Priest.
It was a show that set the stage for matches that could come at WWE Extreme Rules on October 8 or beyond.
WWE Must Save Rey vs. Dominik Mysterio for a Major Stage
Dominik Mysterio is on a new path. After his heel turn at Clash at the Castle, he officially joined The Judgment Day on Monday's Raw. And his presence makes that group more dangerous.
He also is set up for the biggest money match of his career, a one-on-one fight with his father, Rey. We don't know yet how much upside Dominik has, but this match can make or break him.
Even if the 25-year-old isn't a future star like his father, this is a match that WWE cannot rush. It should not happen on Raw, SmackDown or even a B-level pay-per-view. It must be an undercard feature for a major show.
It may not make sense to earmark it for WrestleMania 39, but this can at least be a featured match at the Royal Rumble.
No matter what, though, don't rush this.
Braun Strowman Must Do More Than Attack Tag Teams in This Run
Before Braun Strowman was released, he usually made appearances by attacking those below him on the card when he wasn't wrestling. Monday night was far from the first time he had interrupted the tag team division to put himself over.
This booking does not help The Monster Among Men evolve, though, which is one of the main reasons he became expandable to WWE management.
Omos has shown the value of a giant in WWE, even if he is limited in the ring. Strowman isn't limited and can work a fast-paced style with anyone. He just needs the right stories and opponents to elevate him.
Unless he is going to be paired up in a legitimate tag team, he has no reason to get involved in the division. Instead, he should be challenging top stars he can truly push to their limit.
Omos comes to mind immediately, and Strowman has history with Bobby Lashley to explore. Veer Mahaan is rarely on TV recently, but he and The Monster Among Men could help each other.
Even with smaller-sized but established names such as AJ Styles and Dolph Ziggler, Strowman can thrive.
Bayley and Bianca Belair Should Main-Event Extreme Rules
Extreme Rules will not be as big an event as Clash at the Castle or Survivor Series. There is no big stadium, and Roman Reigns is unlikely to wrestle at the pay-per-view on October 8.
However, this does give WWE an opportunity to highlight others. In the past month, Raw has built many names outside the men's world title scene, but no angle is bigger for the red brand than Bianca Belair's conflict with Damage Control.
The next stage is a final title match between The EST of WWE and Bayley. The two have fought many times and were booked to compete again just before The Role Model tore her in ACL in July 2021.
These two have chemistry to spare, and it's unlikely any other bout on the Extreme Rules card will outshine them. Give them a great stipulation, perhaps even revisit the "I Quit" match they were meant to have at Money in the Bank last year.
This is the first match that needs to happen at the October PPV, and it is the one that will likely end the show on a high.
Dexter Lumis' Unique Rivalry with The Miz Needs an Explanation
WWE has sold Dexter Lumis as an outsider, with him invading Raw week after week to get to The Miz. However, this can only last so long. The company needs to address what is happening, and the crowd needs something to latch onto.
If there is no reason for Lumis attacking The A-Lister, the WWE Universe will turn against him. Even if Miz is a heel, that won't be enough to prevent any backlash.
The Tortured Artist rarely went after anyone who did not deserve it during his time in NXT. His major rivals included Austin Theory, Duke Hudson and Carmelo Hayes, who all pushed him and those he cared about.
Miz is great at selling a feud on the mic. All he needs is one night to speak and push this forward. Even if the two-time WWE champion tries to twist the truth, the following weeks will reveal the full reason for Lumis' actions.
