UFC 141 Results: 2012 Will Be the Year of the Diaz Brothers
There are a few pairs of brothers floating around in MMA these days. There's the Nogueiras, the Freires, and there's the Diazes.
Nick Diaz is a welterweight contender who will be fighting for the interim title against Carlos Condit on Feb. 4.
Nate Diaz is a lightweight contender who absolutely destroyed Donald Cerrone on Friday night.
Going into 2011, there were questions surrounding both of the Diaz brothers. Many said that Nick was not a top fighter, and that he would lose against any top UFC competition.
First, he beat Cyborg Santos. Then he followed it up with victories over Paul Daley in Strikeforce and BJ Penn in his UFC debut. Nick has proven that he is a top welterweight, and he will defeat Carlos Condit in February.
Nick will then be the interim UFC welterweight champion.
Then, 15 pounds lighter, is Nick's little brother, Nate Diaz.
Nate is a lightweight contender who has looked incredibly impressive in his recent return to the division from the welterweight class.
Nate had previously fought at lightweight, where he went 6-3. However, after two straight losses, Nate moved to welterweight, where he went 2-2.
Now back at lightweight, Nate has looked more impressive than ever, submitting Takanori Gomi in the first round, and laying a smackdown on Donald Cerrone.
Diaz is now a top 10 lightweight, and if he fights as much in 2012 as he did in 2011—four times—he could be fighting for a title before year's end.
It is the year of the Diaz brothers.
