Louisville vs. Kentucky: Wildcats' Talent and Size Will Overwhelm Cardinals

Austin GreenDec 30, 2011

The third-ranked Kentucky Wildcats will beat No. 4 Louisville on Saturday, because, as usual, they simply have too much size and talent on the roster.

Kentucky is loaded with long, athletic players that don't mind playing defense. The Wildcats currently have the best defense in the nation, holding opponents to just 35 percent shooting from the field. They also average the most blocked shots in the country, led by Anthony Davis' ridiculous 4.5 swats per game.

While their defense sets the tone, Kentucky's offense is nearly unstoppable.

Most teams would be ecstatic to have three guys that average double-digit scoring. Kentucky has six.

The Wildcats average 82.5 points per game (10th in nation) while shooting 49.8 percent from the field (11th in nation).

Doron Lamb is Kentucky's leading scorer and biggest three-point threat. He averages 15.8 points per game and has nailed 27 of his 55 three-point attempts on the season.

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is right behind him, averaging 13.5 points per game. He's also the team's second leading rebounder thanks to his long arms, natural athletic ability and relentless motor.

Kidd-Gilchrist's energy level is just insane. He busts his ass every play of every game, making him the perfect glue guy on this talented team.

The Wildcats also get major production from Davis, Terrance Jones and Marquis Teague.

Teague's play will be one of the keys in Saturday's game versus the Cardinals. If he can crack Louisville's full-court press, he will put his team in great position.

Once Teague gets the ball across half-court, Kentucky will have to solve the Rubik's Cube that is Louisville's 2-3 matchup zone. It's a frustrating defense that devours the mentally weak. If you aren't patient and composed, the Cardinals defense can eat you alive.

Luckily for John Calipari and company, his team oozes toughness. It will be a tough game, but eventually, Kentucky's size and talent level will just be too much.

Final Prediction: Kentucky 77, Louisville 70
