Jarvis Landry Rumors: WR Visiting Saints; Browns Remain in Mix for Free Agent

Timothy RappApr 19, 2022

Veteran wideout Jarvis Landry will meet with the New Orleans Saints this week, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

Per that report, the Cleveland Browns are "still in the mix" to bring him back.

It appeared that Landry's time in Cleveland was over in March when the Browns released him. He had a tough 2021 season, playing just 12 games because of injury and catching 52 passes for 570 yards and two scores.

It was a down year for the five-time Pro Bowler, and he aired out some laundry in late February:

But the offseason additions of quarterback Deshaun Watson and Amari Cooper changed his tune, with Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reporting on March 19 that the veteran wideout "wanted nothing more than to win a Super Bowl here, and he's motivated to return now that Watson and Cooper are here and the Browns have a bona fide chance."

"There's some mutual interest," his agent Roosevelt Barnes added in late March regarding a potential return to Cleveland, per Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal. "There's some other teams that, of course, are interested, too. We'll just have to see how things play out."

Weeks later, however, Landry remains a free agent, and the Saints are still in need of weapons for quarterback Jameis Winston. Marquez Callaway was the New Orleans' top wideout in 2021, leading the team in receiving yards (698) and receiving scores (six) while finishing second in receptions (46).

That's hardly elite production. The expected return of Michael Thomas should help, but adding a reception magnet like Landry—who has six seasons with 80 or more catches and two seasons with 100 or more—would give the team another much-needed weapon in the passing game.

Add in the fact that Landry is from Louisiana and went to college at LSU, and the Saints are a logical match. Well, if the Browns can't convince him to return, that is.
