Al Michaels, Kirk Herbstreit Announced as 'Thursday Night Football' Booth at Amazon
Al Michaels will serve as the play-by-play commentator for Amazon Prime Video's Thursday Night Football broadcasts this season, the streaming service announced on Wednesday.
“Over the last 36 seasons, I’ve been at the mic describing some of the most magical moments and games in NFL history and am looking forward to many more,” Michaels said in a press release. “This is the new frontier in sports television and to be a part of the launch at this point in my career is both exciting and stimulating. The NFL is the king of unscripted television and I’m looking forward to joining Kirk to bring fans more dramatic episodes on Thursday nights this fall.”

Kirk Herbstreit, who has been a staple of college football coverage on ESPN's College GameDay and primetime college football game broadcasts, will serve as Michaels' partner in the booth.
“I’m thrilled to be a part of Prime Video’s game-changing new Thursday Night Football telecasts, and it’s an honor to join the booth alongside Al,” Herbstreit added. “Together, we will build the next generation of NFL programming. I’m proud to be part of the Amazon team and can’t wait to get started.”
Michaels had served as NBC's play-by-play commentator for Sunday Night Football since 2006, first pairing with John Madden through 2009 before Chris Collinsworth took over as the color commentator.
Prior to his time at NBC, he worked with ABC Sports between 1976 and 2006, handling its Monday Night Football broadcasts from 1986-2005, where he was paired with a number of color commentators, including Frank Gifford, Dan Dierdorff, Boomer Esiason, Dan Fouts, Dennis Miller and Madden.
He has served as the play-by-play announcer for 11 Super Bowls, tying him with the legendary Pat Summerall.
Now Michaels, who has also covered a wide range of sports including the Olympics and NBA, will be joining Amazon for what likely will be the final act in his legendary media career.
