WWE 2K22: Roster Review and Details of New Game Modes

WWE 2K22's March 11 release is on the horizon, and the anticipation is building for gamers to finally get their hands on a copy of the hit video game series.

There was no WWE 2K21, meaning wrestling fans and video game enthusiasts have been waiting over two years for another chapter to be written in the WWE 2K series.

Developers have used that time to build a large and diverse roster in addition to creating new game modes that have never been seen before as part of the WWE 2K franchise.

Here is a complete look at the entire WWE 2K22 roster, as well as some information regarding the new game modes players will get to delve into.

WWE2K always delivers a huge roster, giving gamers a ton of different options. WWE 2K22 is no different.

All of those Superstars are bolstered by multiple different versions of The Undertaker and cover athlete Rey Mysterio for those who pre-ordered the game.

The inclusion of legends wasn't a consistent part of WWE's video games until the past decade, and 2K has always knocked it out of the park in that regard.

WWE 2K22 includes many of the greatest legends to ever lace up a pair of boots in a WWE ring, and gamers will be given the opportunity to pit them against each other, as well as today's biggest stars.

Some of the most notable legends included in the game are Hulk Hogan, "Macho Man" Randy Savage, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, The Rock, Andre the Giant, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Chyna and Trish Stratus.

WWE 2K22 did well to have representatives from the 1980s all the way up until the present day with the Golden Era, New Generation Era, Attitude Era, Ruthless Aggression Era and current era all being part of the game.

Also included in the game are past versions of current Superstars, such as Dolph Ziggler and The Miz for use in the Mysterio Superstar Showcase.

Superstar Showcase is back once again in WWE 2K22, and it will allow gamers to play through the greatest career moments of perhaps the most popular luchador of all time.

As for those who prefer present-day wrestlers to legends, there is a healthy roster of today's Superstars for use in MyGM Mode, Universe Mode and online play.

Most members of the current main roster are in the game, and even some who recently departed the company can still be utilized in WWE 2K22.

WWE 2K22 New Game Mode Details

MyGM

GM Mode was a hugely popular part of past WWE video games, but it was never part of the WWE 2K series until now.

The long-awaited MyGM Mode is included in WWE 2K22, and it will allow gamers to take control of a brand, choose the roster and book it any way they desire.

Players can take control of a general manager such as Stephanie McMahon, Shane McMahon, Sonya Deville, Adam Pearce or William Regal, or they can create a custom GM.

Gamers can then draft members of the roster to Raw or SmackDown while maintaining a budget.

From there, players can book episodes of Raw and SmackDown, as well as pay-per-views, and they can even influence the result of matches by interfering.

One drawback is that MyGM does not include online multiplayer this year, but it is aided by the fact that local multiplayer with each player controlling a brand is possible.

MyFaction

While MyGM is essentially the return of an old game mode from past video games, MyFaction is a completely new addition to WWE 2K22.

In MyFaction, players will be tasked to build the best stable possible using both current and past Superstars. With that stable, they will have to complete certain tasks in order to earn rewards.

Per Scott Shacklady of TheSmackDownHotel.com, a 2K representative also confirmed that microtransactions will be part of the mode.

While making in-mode purchases is not necessary, gamers will have the option to buy "virtual currency" to help them along in the game mode.

In addition to cash, virtual currency can be purchased with MyFaction points earned when playing MyFaction mode.

MyRise

The final new game mode included in WWE 2K22 is MyRise, which is essentially a new and improved version of MyCareer.

In MyRise, gamers can take a created Superstar from the very bottom of WWE to the top by playing through a unique branching storyline.

Both male and female characters can be used in MyRise, and the stories will be different depending which route the player chooses to take.

Branching storylines are a significant addition to MyRise since they weren't much a part of MyCareer. Since decisions made by the player can influence what happens next, MyRise will have a replayability factor that MyCareer may not have had for many.

Nintendo 64 game No Mercy is considered by many to be the greatest wrestling video game of all time, and a story mode with branching storylines is a big reason why.

MyRise will look to take that aspect and add it into the previous MyCareer mode, making for the most immersive career mode in a WWE video game in years.
