2012 NFL Mock Draft: Video Highlights of the Draft's Most Explosive Receivers

John RozumDec 29, 2011

Since the NFL has become such a pass-happy league, and you think of dominant QBs like Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady and Drew Brees, we tend to forget about the WRs making plays.

So, here are four of college football's most explosive WRs in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Justin Blackmon, Oklahoma State

A two-time Fred Biletnikoff award winner, Oklahoma State's Justin Blackmon has compiled over 3,000 receiving yards in the past two seasons as well as accounting for 35 TDs.

He clearly is the Cowboys offense and they wouldn't be the 2011 Big 12 champions without him. His combination of size and strength makes him a top prospect. However, it's his reliability going across the middle and deep down field that is arguably his most impressive aspect.

A team like the St. Louis Rams would welcome his ability, as Blackmon would be a great run-blocker and derive attention from Brandon Lloyd to open up Sam Bradford in the passing game.

Michael Floyd, Notre Dame

A tough and strong WR, Notre Dame's Michael Floyd is the reason the Irish offense was able to have success running the football this season.

The man loves to block and isn't afraid to go across the middle. His hands are great and it's the quickness which allows Floyd to beat defenders early on routes. Add in his deep threat skills and the defense will be stretched out.

Put him on a team like the Cleveland Browns and now there's finally a legit and reliable WR they can count on. Not one of Cleveland's current WRs can beat single coverage, nor are they reliable. And yet, Colt McCoy still had over 2,700 yards with 14 TDs to just 11 picks before he got hurt.

Alshon Jeffery, South Carolina

Due to his down production this season, we may see South Carolina's Alshon Jeffery drop somewhat in the draft.

The thing is though, his QB last season was Stephen Garcia (fail) and for most of 2011 has been Connor Shaw (not yet established). Still, Alshon accounted for over 1,500 yards in 2010 and is averaging over 13 yards per reception in 2011.

Now add in the Gamecocks not having a rushing attack since RB Marcus Lattimore went down and Jeffery is their offense. Despite seeing a lot of double-teams, Alshon is arguably the most dangerous WR on a fade route inside the redzone.

Someone such as the Jacksonville Jaguars would significantly improve, as he'll take a lot of pressure off Maurice Jones-Drew.

Kendall Wright, Baylor

Thanks to his QB Robert Griffin, Baylor WR Kendall Wright has received a lot of exposure in the 2011 season. Then again, Wright is also Griffin's favorite target as he caught 101 passes for 1,572 yards and scored 13 TDs.

Of the players mentioned here, Wright is the smallest, however, he's also arguably the most explosive. Mainly a down-field threat thanks to a 15.6 yards per reception average, Wright can also be a deadly curl/down-and-out route runner.

A team such as the Tennessee Titans would be a great fit, because they need a consistent deep threat to complement a healthy Kenny Britt and whenever the strong-armed Jake Locker takes over under center, look out.
