Alabama 2012 SEC Football Schedule: Tide Schedule Has a Holy Jesus Ending
The SEC schedules were announced today, and Alabama fans finally get a jaw-dropping look at the results.
While some schools (like Georgia) got a very favorable schedule, missing all three of the SEC's top teams from this past year, Alabama gets a tough one, won't get a week off before the LSU game and has a Holy Jesus ending that makes the old "Amen Corner" they used to play look tame.
After their opening day on October 6th, 2012, they play—without rest—six of seven teams that will almost unquestionably be bowl teams.
They'll play Missouri, Tennessee, Mississippi State, LSU and Texas A&M before getting a breather with Western Carolina and then finish with Auburn. That's quite an ending. It's as tough and grueling as any schedule is for the last seven games.
But the Tide also has a tough beginning to their SEC schedule, with an away game at Arkansas, who has gotten better every year, not to mention an opening day game with Michigan, likely to be a top 15 team, at a neutral site.
Should the Tide run this schedule, there is absolutely no doubt whatsoever that they could be playing for yet another national title. But running the gauntlet that is the Tide's 2012 schedule, will not be an undertaking remotely considered easily done.
They play eight teams that are probable bowl teams.
Here is the schedule per UA, with their statement on the schedule:
"The 2012 University of Alabama football schedule was finalized Wednesday and includes seven home games in Bryant-Denny Stadium and five on the road, including the season-opener against Michigan in Cowboys Stadium. The Crimson Tide will host Mississippi, Mississippi State, Texas A&M and Auburn while traveling to Arkansas, Missouri, Tennessee and LSU in conference play next season.
The 2012 schedule includes first-year league members Missouri and Texas A&M, and is not based on any other previous or future scheduling formats. The SEC Athletic Directors will convene in Spring 2012 to begin formulating scheduling principles for the 2013 season and beyond.
