Is Drew Brees, Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers the 2011 NFL MVP?

Kyle CarrollDec 28, 2011

The MVP isn't necessarily the most talented player—although often times the two go hand-in-hand—but rather, as the name implies, the one who is most valuable to his team.

The three quarterbacks below are the three most deserving candidates, and all have very impressive resumes this year.

Tom Brady

Brady won the MVP in 2007 and 2010.

In 2007, Brady’s numbers were so impressive that he earned a place in football history, as he passed for 50 TDs. He only had eight INTs and finished with 4,806 total yards.

In 2010, he had 36 TDs, a microscopic four INTs and 3,900 total yards.

This year, he has 36 TDs, 11 INTs and should total more than 5,000 total yards after the final game.

By leading this year's team to 12-3, Brady has perhaps done his best job yet, as this team's porous defense has made it even more imperative for Brady to carry them to victory every week.

The reigning Super Bowl MVP has led his team to a very impressive 14-1 record.

Like the Patriots have issues on defense, so too do the Packers. Additionally, they boast the 27th ranked rushing defense, making the team very much pass-oriented.

Rodgers has 45 TDs, six INTs and has 4,643 passing yards, with the Lions still on the docket in Week 17.

Although he hasn't had to play Houston, San Francisco or Baltimore, Rodgers' numbers still shouldn't be overlooked.

Having just eclipsed Dan Marino's 27-year-old passing yards record, Brees is flying high.

He entered Monday night against the Falcons needing 305 for his name to be etched in the record books. Brees finished the game with 307 yards and four touchdowns.

Brees’ season totals are at 41 TDs, 13 INTs and a record-setting 5,087 passing yards.

Although better than the Patriots and Packers defense, the Saints defense still isn't anything special, ranking 16th in the league, thus, Brees deserves much of the credit for the teams' 12-3 record.
