Philip Rivers and the Biggest Frauds in the NFL Today

Tony SantorsaDec 27, 2011

Tuesday night, the NFL announced the 2012 Pro Bowl rosters and as I was reading through the names, I couldn't help myself but think how some of the players listed don't deserved to be honored—quite frankly, they're complete frauds.

Don't get me wrong, these "frauds" may be productive in the NFL and be some of the stars of the league, but they're overrated in a big way.

In that spirit, here are some players that were named to the 2012 Pro bowl that are complete frauds and do not deserve to be receiving any honor for the 2011 season.

Philip Rivers

To be honest with you, the AFC is rather dry this season with quarterbacks—but how the hell does Philip Rivers get voted in ahead of Andy Dalton and Tim Tebow

I know, I know—Rivers has a tad bit better stats than Dalton, and his stats are far more superior compared to Tebow's. However, Rivers has hurt the San Diego Chargers far more than help them this season with his awful league-leading 19 interceptions.

How can you lead the league in interceptions but still make the Pro Bowl?

Yes, Eli Manning is clutch—I will give you that. However, is he playing better than Matthew Stafford, Cam Newton, Tony Romo or Matt Ryan? Absolutely not.

Manning has thrown only 26 touchdowns this season while being picked off 16 times and posting a quarterback rating of 90.3. I realize that those are pretty good stats, but when you line him up with other guys in the NFL, they're just above average.

Antonio Gates

There's no reason why Antonio Gates should be considered elite anymore. You know? He's always hurt and his skills are diminishing.

Gates has played only 12 games this season as he's reeled in 59 passes for 672 yards and six touchdowns.

Sure, those are decent stats, but is it safe to say that he's an elite tight end? Not anymore. He's a fraud.

Ray Lewis is still a very good linebacker—but is he a top-tier linebacker? Not at all.

Lewis has been hurt for a solid chunk of 2011 as he's played in 11 games making 88 tackles.

The thing about linebackers is that I hate judging them by using the amount of tackles—it's a very deceiving stat. When I watch the Baltimore Ravens play, I see an over-the-hill linebacker running his mouth before the game, talking his team up and then just performing at an average on the field.

Ray Lewis may sound like an elite name to you, but it's not anymore. He's a fraud.

Greg Jennings

The media often gives off the impression that Greg Jennings is one of the best wide receivers that the NFL has to offer—then why didn't he go over 100 receptions last season and why won't he do it this year?

Why has he yet to do it his entire career? Because he's overrated and people wont believe it.

Jennings is believed to be a top-tier No. 1, go-to wide receiver.

Well if that's the case, then why has he had six games this season when he's been held to under five receptions? Because he's a decent route-runner that can be shutdown.
