Portland Trail Blazers Rout the Sacramento Kings 101-79

Kristian WinfieldDec 27, 2011

The sell-out Rose Garden crowd roared on as their hometown team, Portland Trail Blazers continued to lay down a beating on the young Sacramento Kings.

While Jamal Crawford, Wesley Matthews, and Raymond Felton each had forgettable nights, combining for only 19 points on an abysmal eight-for-33 shooting from the field. LaMarcus Aldridge and Gerald Wallace more than picked up the slack, leading the Blazers to a convincing 101-79 rout of the Kings, Monday night.

LaMarcus Aldridge continued his all-star campaign from the 2010-2011 seasons, putting up 24 points (10-15 FG), eight rebounds, and a steal in 33 minutes on the floor. "Crash" Wallace added another 25 points (8-11 FG), eight rebounds, five assists, and two blocks, which gave Portland their second win of the season. Nicolas Batum also put in 15 points and five rebounds off of the bench.

Portland showcased their new up-tempo play style, and, coupled with their ferocious defense (which helped force 18 turnovers) and deadly half court sets, the Sacramento Kings never stood a chance.

Marcus Thornton and DeMarcus Cousins combined for 30 of Sacramento's 79 points, and Jason Thompson added in 11 more points.

However, Coach Paul Westphal neglected to play rookie sensation, Jimmer Fredette, late in the fourth quarter, and the Trail Blazers poured on points as time ticked away.

Matthews has gotten off to a slow start, shooting four-for-14 in both of Portland's games so far, the Trail Blazers' depth has been able to compensate.

Portland rookie Nolan Smith made the most of his minutes down the stretch, scoring four points in dramatic fashion towards the end of the game.

Aldridge and Wallace will face-off against former teammates Andre Miller and Rudy Fernandez on Thursday, when the Denver Nuggets come to town. And that rowdy Rose Garden crowd will be sure to give them an ear full.
