Pro Bowl Snubs 2012: Biggest Offensive Snubs in NFC

Zachary D. RymerDec 28, 2011

Seriously, who decides the Pro Bowl rosters every year? Do these people even watch football?

In case you're just now joining the party, the rosters for the 2012 Pro Bowl were announced on Tuesday night. As per usual, they are far from perfect.

That's especially true when it comes to the NFC's offense. There were a lot of players doing work on offense in the NFC this season, and a couple of them were left off the conference's Pro Bowl roster.

You're welcome to disagree, but here are the five most egregious snubs on the NFC offensive roster.

5. Roddy White, Atlanta Falcons

I'm not going to dwell on Roddy White's exclusion for too long, but I will point out that he finished with numbers rather identical to those compiled by Larry Fitzgerald.

Fitzgerald has 1,262 receiving yards this season, and White has 1,227. Fitzgerald has eight receiving touchdowns this season, and so does White. Fitzgerald has 71 receptions this season, and White has a grand total of 95.

I don't have a problem with Fitzgerald's selection, but he got a boost from his reputation. White could have easily gone in his place.

4. Matthew Stafford, Detroit Lions

I'm not quite as high on Matthew Stafford as others are, but I agree that he deserved to go to the Pro Bowl over Eli Manning.

I've got nothing but love for Eli, but Stafford has 10 more touchdown passes than he does and two fewer interceptions. He's accomplished all of this without any help whatsoever from his rushing attack, and he also had to battle through a busted finger for a couple weeks.

Besides, how about a little appreciation for the guy who has led the Lions to the playoffs for the first time since 1999?

3. Marshawn Lynch, Seattle Seahawks

Since the start of November, Marshawn Lynch has been the best running back in the NFL. It's not even close.

After getting off to a slow start, Lynch has rushed for 855 yards in Seattle's last eight games, and he has found the end zone in 11 straight games. He even managed to score a rushing touchdown and rush for 100 yards against the San Francisco 49ers, who just don't allow running backs to do much of anything.

Lynch will get in, though. Matt Forte was tabbed to go to Hawaii, but he's hurt now and likely won't be willing to risk further injury before he goes looking for a contract this offseason.

2. Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers

I would gladly pick Matthew Stafford to go to the Pro Bowl over Eli Manning, but I would pick Cam Newton to go over Stafford.

Newton has been far from perfect, but he's had arguably the best rookie season in NFL history this year. He's passed for over 3,800 yards, rushed for another 674, thrown 20 touchdown passes and scored 14 rushing touchdowns.

He's looked good doing it too. After watching Newton do his thing this season, I hope his career never ends.

1. Victor Cruz, New York Giants

It's downright ridiculous that Victor Cruz didn't make the Pro Bowl. He's been as productive as any wide receiver in the NFC (except for Calvin Johnson).

As of right now, Cruz is second in the NFC in receiving yards with 1,358, tied for third with an average reception of 17.9 yards and fourth with 21 receptions of 20 yards or more.

At the absolute least, Cruz deserves to go to the Pro Bowl over Greg Jennings. But since Jennings will likely be occupied elsewhere, Cruz will likely play in the Pro Bowl anyway.
