UFC Fight Night: Buckley v Malott

UFC Fight Night: Buckley vs. Malott Live Updates, Highlights and Results

Tom TaylorOct 17, 2026

The UFC welterweight division was once the domain of a Canadian named Georges St-Pierre. There is now another Canadian gunning for the division's throne, and he seeks to succeed where the likes of Rory MacDonald failed.

That would be Mike Malott.

Ahead of Saturday's UFC show in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Malott seemed like a good but not great welterweight who was struggling to assert himself amid contenders like Carlos Prates, Ian Machado Garry, and Michael Morales. After he kneed Joaquin Buckley into the land of wind and ghosts in the card's main event, he looks like he might actually be able to compete with them.

Malott wasn't the only Canadian to surprise on Saturday. In the co-main event of the UFC's return to Edmonton, Jasmine Jasudavicius asserted herself as a top flyweight contender with an impressive decision win over Erin Blanchfield.

The undercard wasn't nearly as favorable for the Canadian team, but it was filled with impressive finishes. Only finishes, actually.

Keep scrolling for a complete recap of the UFC's latest stop in Canada as it happened.

Malott Sleeps Buckley!

The first round of Mike Malott and Joaquin Buckley's welterweight main event was close, and extremely tense. Both men have proven stopping power, and it was clear they were sizing each other up, and trying to track each other's timing.

By the start of round two, it was looking like Buckley was getting comfortable. But it was Malott who was finding his range. Out of nowhere, the Canadian flung out a rocket-powered knee that instantly put Buckley down.

A few punches later, and it was done.

In victory, Malott will enter the top-10. He's now 15-2-1, and one of the top contenders in the welterweight division. He's perhaps more in league with the likes of Carlos Prates and Michael Morales than we realized. His win tonight was violent.

Main Event Is Next!

UFC Fight Night: Buckley v Malott Ceremonial Weigh-in

We've reached the main event of the evening, and it's a big one in the 170-pound welterweight division.ย

The star of the show, given that tonight's card is in Canada, will be Mike Malott. The Canadian is 14-2-1 as a pro, and has rebounded from a disastrous stoppage loss to Neil Magny with four straight wins, including defeats of Kevin Holland and Gilbert Burns.ย

His opponent on home soil will be Joaquin Buckley, who, despite a couple of recent losses, has proven himself as an elite welterweight by beating the likes of Colby Covington and Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson.

There is most likely a spot in the top-10 on the line for the winner of this fight, but can either guy hang with the likes of Islam Makhachev, Carlos Prates, and Michael Morales?

We should have a better idea of that soon.

Jasudavicius With the Upset

Canada's Jasmine Jasudavicius was a noteworthy underdog in her co-main event battle with Erin Blanchfield. Despite that, she grappled her way to a decision win on home soil.

After the win, she called for a fight with new flyweight champ Natalia Silva. She might not be the first fighter in line for that opportunity, but with the UFC returning to Toronto in January, it's possible.

Jasudavicius is now 16-4 overall, with wins in her last two fights.

Blanchfield is now 14-3. She has plenty of time to rebound.

Time For The Co-Main

UFC Fight Night: Buckley v Malott Ceremonial Weigh-in

The UFC women's flyweight division is currently wide open.

Natalia Silva is the new champ. Alexa Grasso, a former champ, has seemingly hit a new level, and is ready to fight for the belt again. Valentina Shevchenko, the dominant champ who never lost the belt, is still waiting in the wings.

In Edmonton's co-main event, two talented but inconsistent flyweights will look to assert themselves as contenders for Silva's throne.

The more prominent is "Cold Blooded" Erin Blanchfield, who probably would have fought for the title by now were it not for a 2024 loss to Manon Fiorot.

The other is Canada's Jasmine Jasudavicius who, at 37, remains one of the divisions top contenders.

The winner of this one isn't next for a title shot, but a finish for either woman could make quite a statement.

Here we go.

Perez Smokes Nelson in 1

Mexico's Cristian Perez took care of Kyle Nelson in seconds. Really just seconds.

"Puas" hurt his opponent with one of the first punches he threw in the fight. Nelson fired back, but paid for his vengefulness by eating a massive counter from Perez.

Just like that, it was over.

Perez, who commentator Dominick Cruz was absolutely gaga over, is now 16-2. He's won three consecutive fights, and looks ready to mix it up with much higher opposition than he was given in Canada.

Nelson, who deserves some props for his longevity, is unfortunately 1-3 in his last four fights. He's now 17-8-1.

Nelson vs. Perez Up Next

UFC Fight Night: Buckley v Malott Ceremonial Weigh-in

After disastrous results on the undercard, Canada finally has finally gotten some good results at tonight's UFC show in Edmonton.

In our next fight, veteran Canadian featherweight veteran Kyle Nelson (17-7-1) will attempt to keep the momentum going at the expense of Mexico's Cristian Perez (15-2).ย

Nelson is 2-2 in his last four fights, and is a justifiable underdog.ย

Perez has won two straight heading into this fight, which will be his first in the UFC.ย

Barriault Springs the Upset

After two straight losses, not many people expected Canada's Marc-Andre Barriault to beat Kyle Daukaus, and in the early going of their middleweight fight, it didn't look like he would. As the first round wore down, however, Barriault turned the tables on Daukaus, claiming top position, and raining down ground strikes until the ref intervened.

In victory, the 36-year-old "Powerbar," who trains with Lethwei legend Dave Leduc, is now 18-11.

Daukaus is now 17-6, and riding back-to-back stoppage losses.

Middleweight Veterans Collide

UFC Fight Night: Buckley v Malott Ceremonial Weigh-in

Next up, we've got a middleweight scrap between Kyle Daukaus and Marc-Andre Barriault.ย

Daukaus (17-5), will be looking to rebound from a lopsided loss to Bo Nickal at the White House.ย

Quebec's Barriault (17-11), who is always entertaining, if not particularly reliable, has lost two straight fights, but both against solid foes in Michal Oleksiejczuk and Shara Magomedov.ย

This one should be fun.ย

Cuamba Taps Jourdain

As the younger brother of Charles Jourdain, Louis Jourdain had a decent amount of hype ahead of his UFC debut.

Timmy Cuamba didn't get the memo.

Cuamba, who was participating in his sixth UFC fight, showed total composure in the fight, and gradually broke his young opponent down en route to a second-round submission win. It was a rear-naked choke โ€” or maybe a face crank โ€” that earned the tap.

That brings Cuamba to 11-4 overall, and 3-3 in the UFC.

Jourdain, now 8-4, will have to take another shot at winning in the Octagon.

Charles Jourdain's Brother Debuts Next

UFC Fight Night: Buckley v Malott Ceremonial Weigh-in

The second fight of the main card will be contested at bantamweight. This one will pit Canada's Louis Jourdainโ€”younger brother of established contender Charles Jourdainโ€”against visiting American Timmy Cuamba.

Jourdain (9-3) will be making his UFC debut after earning a contract with a third-round submission victory on Contender Series.ย

Cuamba has already fought five times in the UFC, but has lost three of his five fights as a member of the roster.ย

Nallo Chops Down Landwehr

After a tough outcome in his UFC debut earlier this year, Canada's Mandel Nallo finally scored a win in the Octagon in Edmonton, stopping the veteran Nate Landwehr in round two.

Nallo used a steady procession of calf kicks to compromise his foe through round one. After dropping him with yet another kick in round two, he finished him off with a volley of punches.

In victory, "Mango" Nallo is now 15-4, and 1-1 in the UFC. While he has only cemented his reputation as an exciting fighter since joining the UFC roster, his time with the promotion may be limited, at 37 years old. Hopefully, the matchmakers continue to pair him with fighters who will meet him in the middle of the cage, like the fading legend Landwehr.

In defeat, "The Train" Landwehr has lost four straight. He's now 18-9, and may have just rolled through his last stop in the UFC.

Main Card Starts Now!

UFC Fight Night: Buckley v Malott Ceremonial Weigh-in

It's now time for tonight's main card.

First up, we've got a fan friendly lightweight fight between Canadian bruiser Mandel Nallo (14-4) and UFC cult hero Nate "The Train" Landwehr (18-8).ย

Nallo, who is already 37, made his UFC debut earlier this year, losing a quick but thrilling scrap with Jai Herbert by first-round TKO.ย

The 38-year-old Landwehr, who is one of the most reliably exciting fighters in MMA, has lost three straight, but has significantly more big stage experience than his opponent, which could definitely be a factor in their fight.ย

This one should be a lot of fun, but it may not last long.ย

Boser Puts Canada on the Board

The UFC's return to Edmonton got off to a very ugly start for the home team, with Canadian fighters losing five straight fights. In the final bout of the prelims, Alberta's own Tanner Boser finally changed that, grinding Brazil's Jhonata Diniz to a third-round TKO win. It wasn't prettyโ€”in fact, Diniz's cup actually flopped out of his shorts at one point, which was downright ugly. Still, you can bet the fans in the building were glad to see a Canadian in the win column.

This victory is Boser's first in the UFC since a decision defeat of Aleksa Camur in 2023. The Canadian is is now 23-11-1 overall, and 1-1 in his second stint on the UFC roster.

His biggest wish after the victory?

"Put me in the damn video game!"

Diniz, whose takedown defense was among the worst you'll ever see in MMA, is now 9-3. He will most likely be cut from the roster in defeat, though the UFC seems to have a little more patience with heavyweights. We're looking at you, Tai Tuivasa.

Main card up next!

Boser Seeks a Win for Canada

UFC Fight Night: Buckley v Malott Ceremonial Weigh-in

It's time for some more heavyweight action.ย This time, it will be Canada's Tanner Boser (22-11-) against Brazil's Jhonata Diniz (9-2).

Boser will look to become the first Canadian fighter to score a win tonight โ€” no pressure!

The Alberta local is in the midst of his second stint with the UFC. He lost his first fight back with the promotion, suffering a second-round stoppage at the hands of Gokhan Saricam.ย

Diniz is also riding a second-round stoppage loss. His came at the hands of unbeaten contender Mario Pinto.ย

Galanti Makes Quick Work of Leblanc

New Jersey's Nick Galantiย made it look easy in his middleweight fight with Canada's Julien Leblanc. He completed his first takedown of the fight, and soon thereafter, locked up a rear-naked choke for the win. It was that simple for him.

With the win, the Contender Series grad makes a successful UFC debut. He's now 9-1.

Leblanc falls to 10-4, and is winless in two UFC bouts. His time with the promotion may already be over.

So far, this has been a very rough night for Team Canada.

Middleweights Up Next

UFC Fight Night: Buckley v Malott Ceremonial Weigh-in

Up next, we've got a middleweight fight pitting Canada's Julien Leblanc (10-3) against Nick Galanti (8-1), who is visiting Edmonton from New Jersey.ย

Leblanc, a former Samourai MMA champ, will attempt to rebound from a submission loss to Robert Valentin in his April UFC debut.ย

Galanti will be making his debut in the Octagon debut following a 35-second knockout of Carlos Petruzzella on Contender Series in August.ย

Faglier Rallies for Stoppage Win

Joel Faglier was knocked down twice in the first round of his heavyweight showdown with Canadian representative Javad Mahjoub. Thankfully, his opponent only had about four minutes of cardio to work with, and fell apart completely when the first-round KO didn't materialize.

By the time round two began, Mahjoub was gasping for air, and barely able to string a combination together. Faglier, while clearly not a cardio machine himself, was at least conditioned enough to keep punching. That set him up for a second-round TKO victory.

He's now 7-0 overall, and 1-0 in the UFC.

Mahjoub falls to 5-1, and frankly may not be deserving of a spot on the UFC roster. You've got to be able to fight hard for at least five minutesโ€”even as a heavyweight.

Heavyweights Take the Stage

UFC Fight Night: Buckley v Malott Ceremonial Weigh-in

After a handful of fights in the lighter weight classes, it's time for a couple of heavyweights to take the stage.ย

Our next fight will pit unbeaten Canadian Javad Mahjoub (5-0) against visiting American Joel Faglier, who is also undefeated at 6-0.ย

Both men will be making their UFC debuts. You really never know what you're going to get with prospects in the heavyweight division. Let's see what these two are all about.ย

Cerminara by TKO!

Katlyn Cerminara has been an elite flyweight for years, but she has never been known as a finisher. In fact, heading into her Saturday fight with Mackenzie Stiller, she had not scored a finish since 2016.

She finally changed that Edmonton, battering her significantly smaller and clearly outmatched opponent to a first-round TKO.

The win, Cerminara's first since returning from childbirth, brings her record to 19-6, and separates her from back-to-back losses dating back to 2022.

Stiller is now 6-2, and winless in the UFC.

Katlyn Cerminara Returns!

UFC Fight Night: Buckley v Malott Ceremonial Weigh-in

Our next fight is the only one on tonight's bill that does not feature a Canadian. It will be contested in the women's flyweight division, where former title contender Katlyn Cerminara (18-6) will return from a lengthy layoff against The Ultimate Fighter product Mackenzie Stiller (6-1).ย

Cerminara has not fought since 2024, when she suffered a decision loss to Maycee Barber. Her next most recent fight was in 2022, when she lost a decision to Manon Fiorot.ย

Stiller will be making her UFC debut. She won her last three pro fights in the LFA cage, all by submission.ย

Koslow by Submission!

After almost four years out of action, Steven Koslow returned to winning ways in Edmonton, submitting Canada's Chad Anheliger with a rear-naked choke in round three of their bantamweight fight.

Anheliger had almost nothing to offer in the Octagon, surrendering takedowns in all three rounds, and doing very little in the rare moments the fight was on the feet. Koslow was in control from pillar to post.

In victory, Koslow is now 7-1. Anheliger, meanwhile, is a tough 13-9, and at 39 years old, may not be welcomed back to the Octagon.

More Bantamweight Action on Deck

UFC Fight Night: Buckley v Malott Ceremonial Weigh-in

It's time for a third straight fight contested at 135 pounds. This one will pit Canada's Chad Anheliger (13-8) against Steven Koslow (6-1), who is visiting from the USA.ย

"The Monster" Anheliger has not fought since he lost a decision against Cody Gibson almost two years ago.ย

Koslow is riding an even longer layoff. He hasn't fought since late 2022, when he was knocked out by Cameron Saaiman. Not kidding.

Another Kimura!

Chelsea Chandler had to endure some punishment in the early going of her women's bantamweight fight with Canada's Melissa Croden, but ultimately locked up a win with a kimura in the first roundโ€”the second submission of this kind we've seen in as many fights tonight.

It's Chandler's second submission win in a row, and it pushes her pro record to 8-4.

In defeat, Croden is also 8-4.

Bantamweights Up Next

UFC Fight Night: Buckley v Malott Ceremonial Weigh-in

The second bout of the night will be contested in the women's bantamweight division, where Canada's Melissa Croden (8-3) will take on visiting American Chelsea Chandler (7-4).ย

Croden is riding a decision win over Darya Zheleznyakova.ย

Chandler was last in action in June, when she submitted Priscila Cachoeira with a first-round armbar.ย

The women's bantamweight division is desperate for new contenders right now. Let's see if either woman can make a serious statement here.ย

You Taps Chovancek

South Korean bantamweight You Su-young was utterly dominant in the first bout of the night, smothering Canada's Cody Chovancek for two and a half rounds before tapping him with a kimura in the final minutes of the third.

With his lopsided victory in Edmonton, You improves to 17-4 overall. He's now won four straight fights. This is the first finish of his UFC career.

Chovancek tastes defeat for the first time. He's now 9-1 overall, and winless in the UFC.

We Are Live!

UFC Fight Night: Buckley v Malott Ceremonial Weigh-in

The UFC's latest show in the Canadian fight hub of Edmonton is officially underway.

The first fight of the night will be contested at bantamweight, with Canada's Cody Chovancek (9-0) taking on You Su-young (16-4) of South Korea.ย

The hometown hero Chovancek earned a UFC contract with a slick knockout on Contender Series in September of 2025, but is only just now making his debut.ย

You will be making his fourth UFC appearance. He won his first three by unanimous decision but was submitted by Eljiah Smith in his last.

10 Minutes Out!

Tonight's UFC card will kick off in just under 10 minutes.

Here's what's on tap for coming hours. It really looks like Canada vs. the world!
