Team USA pulled away from France in the second half to win the gold medal game 97-79, overcoming a 14-point deficit to bring home their fifth-straight FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup title.

You can't overstate just how good Breanna Stewart and Jackie Young were for the United States. Stewart finished with a game-high 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Young became the first player ever to record 15 points, five assists and five rebounds in a World Cup final.

The biggest difference in the second half was how dialed in Team USA was defensively, and how much France's shooting cooled off. They hit eight threes in the first half but just three in the second half. Gabby Williams also scored just four points following a 16-point first half.

We gathered updates from all the action, along with highlights, key plays and analysis from Team USA's win.

Breanna Stewart Named World Cup MVP

Breanna Stewart was named the 2026 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup MVP, becoming the first player in men's or women's basketball history to win the award twice.

She first won the award in 2018, when Team USA defeated Australia in the World Cup final.

The Future Is Bright For France

What we learned from this World Cup is just how much smaller the gap between the United States and the rest of the world has become compared to a decade ago, and even a few years back.

France is at the top of that list, with a deep group of young talent that should only get better. Dominique Malonga, Leïla Lacan, Carla Leite, Pauline Astier, Janelle Salaün, Nell Angloma and Sarah Cissé is an incredibly exciting mix of players to build around moving forward.

Breanna Stewart Doesn't Lose

Breanna Stewart has won three championships in the WNBA, never lost at the World Cup, never lost at the Olympics and never lost in college at UConn on her way to four-straight national titles.

Today, she came up big time and time again against France, finishing with 22 points, 10 rebounds and four assists on 7-of-10 shooting from the field and 8-of-9 at the free-throw line. Stewart has a case as the greatest winner in basketball history.

Final: USA 97, France 79

Team USA looked unstoppable after halftime, outscoring France 54-24 on their way to another World Cup title.

The United States shot 62 percent from two and 42 percent from three, while assisting on 21 of its 36 made field goals.

Breanna Stewart and Jackie Young were utterly dominant once again, with excellent games from Chelsea Gray, Kahleah Copper, Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston as well.

It looked like Gabby Williams was on her way to a legendary performance through the first two quarters, but Team USA almost completely took her out of the game in the second half. France couldn't find enough scoring elsewhere, with Marine Johannès finishing with just five points and Janelle Salaün attempting only two shots in 23 minutes.

Caitlin Clark Before The Buzzer Again!

Caitlin Clark ended the first half with a tough jumper for Team USA, and she did it again in the third quarter. This time, she knocked down a pull-up mid-range jumper with Marine Johannès right in her face.

End of the 3Q: USA 73, France 57

Team USA completely took over in the third quarter, outscoring France 30-12 to build a 16-point lead heading into the final 10 minutes.

The United States moved the ball quickly, created efficient looks at the rim and forced turnovers on the defensive end.

France didn't hit a three-pointer until Magna Toure's catch-and-shoot jumper in the final minute. Gabby Williams was held scoreless, Dominique Malonga struggled with the physicality and Marine Johannès made some costly mistakes defensively. It couldn't have gone much worse for France.

Jackie Young Can't Miss

Jackie Young has been unconscious. She's hitting almost every three she takes, but the drives have been excellent. If she gets two feet in the paint, she's probably scoring. Her pacing, strength, counters and touch are special.

Young has 18 points, four rebounds and five assists on 7-of-11 shooting... and there's still plenty of time left.

Caitlin Clark From Three Before The Buzzer 🎯

Caitlin Clark hits a three in the closing seconds of the first half to bring Team USA within two points at the break.

Clark has been inconsistent from three throughout the tournament, but maybe this is the shot that gets her going in the second half.

Halftime: France 45, USA 43

France takes a two-point lead into halftime with a gold medal on the line. When Team USA helps off anyone on the perimeter, France is making them pay. They shot 8-of-14 from three in the first half.

Gabby Williams has been unbelievable. The defense, the shot-making, the drives; she's done it all. France has also been aggressive defensively at the level of the screen in pick-and-roll, forcing Team USA into early ball pickups and difficult passing windows.

For Team USA, it's no surprise that Chelsea Gray is showing up when it matters most. This is the most aggressive version of Gray we've seen in the tournament so far. Jackie Young, Breanna Stewart and Aliyah Boston have been great, too.

This game could come down to whether France can keep shooting 50 percent from three. Team USA can't keep giving them so much space.

Nasty Drive From Gabby Williams 🔥

Gabby Williams is having the game of her life. She scored 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting in the first half against Team USA.

Here, she created separation from Breanna Stewart with an inside-out dribble, then attacked baseline and finished with a reverse layup.

Team USA Fights Back

It's been a game of runs. France opened the second quarter on an 8-0 run, then Team USA followed it up with a 10-2 run of their own to make it a two-possession game again.

Jackie Young has been lights out from three, knocking down all three of their attempts. Chelsea Gray found her in the corner here on this beautiful no-look pass.

France Takes An 11-Point Lead

France opens the second quarter on an 8-0 run to take an 11-point lead—the largest deficit Team USA has faced in the tournament.

Angel Reese fouled Carla Leite on a 3-point attempt, leading to three points. Then, Ayayi followed it up with a three and Leite knocked down a deep two-point jumper.

End of the 1Q: France 20, USA 17

What a fun, fast-paced first quarter. There were four ties and five lead changes in the opening 10 minutes, but France takes a three-point lead into the second quarter.

France has also done a good job of keeping Team USA off the foul line, with the United States attempting just four free throws in the quarter.

Gabby Williams Stays Hot From Three

Gabby Williams has arguably been the best player in the tournament entering today's final, and that elite play has continued early. She scored six points in the first quarter, including this pull-up 3-pointer with Aliyah Boston switched onto her.

Williams is shooting 48.4 percent from three on over six attempts per game at the World Cup.

Fast Start For Both Teams

Team USA and France combined to score 19 points through the first three minutes, with both teams squared at nine.

Breanna Stewart and Chelsea Gray have been excellent early. Just look at this nasty pull-up mid-range jumper from Gray over Janelle Salaün
