Chris Weidman Submits Kelvin Gastelum in UFC on Fox 25 Main Event
Chris Weidman sent the Long Island crowd into a frenzy by submitting Kelvin Gastelum in the third round of their main event contest of UFC on Fox 25. The former champion broke a string of three straight losses with one of the best performances of his career. Darren Elkins also picked up a big win at UFC on Fox 25, edging out Dennis Bermudez in the co-main event of the evening. Elkins was given a split decision nod in a back-and-forth contest that went right down to the wire. Weidman Gets a Much Needed Victory Tonight

Chris Weidman vs. Kelvin Gastelum: Round 3
Gastelum comes out swinging wildly. Weidman fires back and lands a right hand that puts Gastelum off balance. After the exchange the fires fall into a more measured pace, which allows Weidman to crack Gastelum with a pair of big shots upstairs. Gastelum gets wobbly, but recovers quickly and goes on the offensive. Despite the recent success on the feet, Weidman goes back to his wrestling, taking Gastelum down near the fence. Weidman moves from the back to side-control and latches on an arm-triangle. Gastelum grimaces as he defends, but eventually succumbs to the choke, tapping Weidman's shoulder in submission.

A nice right hand from Weidman sets him back on track after a dicey end to the previous round. He looks to cover some more momentum by taking Gastelum down with a single-leg. Gastelum is able to work up, but Weidman gets him down twice more, running his takedown total to five. This time the former champion settles into his foe's guard, prioritizing control over damage. He moves to Gastelum's back before time expires.

A minute passes before either fighter lands anything of significance. The first salvo is fired by Weidman in the form of a straight right hand. He then adds a leg-kick before completing a takedown. Gastelum fights to get up, but Weidman drags him back to the mat and settles into side-control. Weidman pulls for a kimura, but he loses it and Gastelum stands up in the ensuing scramble. Gastelum hammers Weidman with a left hand near the end of the round, scoring a knockdown and nearly finishing the fight before the horn sounds.

Dennis Bermudez vs. Darren Elkins: Round 3
The combatants exchange leg-kicks early in the final round. Bermudez puts together a couple of connections, but his aggression allows Elkins to grab hold of him. It turns out not to be a problem for Bermudez though, as he's able to break free and crack Elkins with a right hand. The fight continues to flow from exchange to clinch and back again, Bermudez mostly getting the better of each phase in this round. The conclusion comes with Bermudez fighting off a takedown attempt.

Dennis Bermudez vs. Darren Elkins: Round 2
Bermudez charges in and flurries, landing a hard left hand. He adds a couple of jabs in the next exchange before shaking off a takedown attempt from Elkins. Bermudez then takes his opponent down to a sitting position against the fence. Elkins manages to stand and the fighters battle with short shots against the cage. Elkins eventually ends up with Bermudez's back, elevating him for a takedown. Bermudez is able to stand, but slips while throwing a knee, finishing the round on the bottom.

Bermudez comes out with typically aggressiveness, jumping toward Elkins five seconds into the match. Elkins counters with a right hand before absorbing a a pair of thudding leg-kicks. After tallying a couple more leg-kicks, Bermudez goes high, but he slips and Elkins dives onto him. Bermudez stands and tries to break free from a bodylock. He eventually does, but Elkins then takes him down with a double-leg shot. Elkins sinks in a body-triangle from his opponent's back, but Bermudez stands and shakes him off. Bermudez creates some separation and lands a couple of nice punches before the horn.

Patrick Cummins vs. Gian Villante: Round 3
Cummins looks for the takedown early on, but runs into the same result he's found throughout the fight. Villante makes him pay with a couple of hard right hands, then stuffs another takedown. This time it's Cummins connecting after the separation, hitting with a hard jab. Villante takes another turn before Cummins lands again, both guys trying to take control of the round. As Villante's output tails off Cummins cracks him with a couple of hooks and ties up against the chain-links. After being reset, both fighters land right hands.

Cummins opens with a cross, but is once again foiled in his effort to complete a takedown. Villante hasn't thrown much through the opening 90 seconds, allowing Cummins to widen his edge in significant strikes. Cummins launches some more unsuccessful takedowns, but the effort is at least preventing Villante from getting off with his offense. A couple of punches finally land for Villante, who then finds himself once again (sucessfully) defending the takedown.

Cummins approaches Villante cautiously, then goes straight to his wrestling, but comes up empty after two attempt, and absorbs a handful of hammerfists for his trouble. Villante adds a pair of big right hands that stagger Cummins, but the wounded fighter is present enough to clinch until he recovers. A clash of heads leads to a timeout, and when we restart, Cummins charges Villante to the fence. Cummins scores with a cross before failing for a fourth time on a takedown. Cummins lands another right hand and finally works Villante to his knees, but gets no further. The round concludes as another Cummins takedown stalls against the fence.

Rivera shifts gears to open Round 3, taking Almeida down to the mat about 20 seconds into the frame. Almeida works over to the fence and gets back to his feet. Both guys hit with leg-kicks when they return to striking distance, Rivera putting a right hand behind his. Rivera then ties up and ushers Almeida to the fence, working knees to the thighs. Almeida escapes and lands a right hook. When Almeida jumps for a knee Rivera takes advantage with a takedown. He isn't able to keep him down, though. Almeida flurries and Rivera answers, leading to an action-filled final 15 seconds of the match.

Almeida opens with a low-kick and a knee to the body. After a failed takedown, Rivera comes back with a left hook, then hits with another one a few moment later. When Almedia lands a leg-kick Rivera counters with a right hand. Almeida immediately comes back with a left hook that lands on the side of the head. A lightning quick combo from Almeida ends with a left hook that drops Rivera to a knee. The wounded fighter recovers quickly and bounds up, circling away. The Brazilian goes high with a kick, landing to the head. Rivera looks for an answer but comes up empty.

The first minute of the fight passes with little action beyond some Almeida leg-kicks. Both guys are throwing, but neither is committing to anything too aggressive. Almeida scores with a right hand, which is immediately counter by Rivera. The American adds a left hand that puts Almeida onto the met. Almedia recovers quickly and clinches with Rivera until the fighters are reset in the center of the cage. Rivera scores a second knockdown, this time with a straight right hand, but once again Almeida recovers immediately. Almeida finishes the round with a solid one-two.

After a quick embrace the fights quickly bite down on their mouthpieces and sling leather at one another. Dos Santos hammers Good with a hard left hook then adds a right. The Brazilian appears to be the fresher fighter; he's more active and is putting more on his punches. Good is firing back though, and he lands a hard right hand. Dos Santos uses some leg-kicks, which he used early in the fight, to tally some additional strikes as the clock winds down. Dos Santos fires off one last hard punch right before the horn.

A nice right hand lands for Good, but he eats one straight back in return. He continues to pressure dos Santos, keeping him on the outside and close to the fence. Good uses the positional advantage to put in two strong right hands that snap dos Santos' head back. After dos Santos fails on a takedown attempt he draws Good into an exchange that sees both guys fire recklessly at one another. Good lands a right hand before dos Santos clips him back, first with a spinning backfist, then a right hand. Dos Santos jumps up for a knee, landing clean. Good seems strangely unfazed.

Good is quickly taken down when dos Santos catches a kick, but the New Yorker pops back up almost immediately. The Brazilian looks for another takedown but is stuffed this time. Dos Santos tags Good with a trio of leg-kicks, tattooing his leg. Good counters with a takedown, but he's unable to keep his opponent grounded for long. Dos Santos makes the most of his escape by cracking Good with a pair of rights that land impactfully. The fighters exchange heavy punches with about 30 seconds to go, each landing before they break off.

Anders claims the center of the Octagon, forcing Natal to circle around the perimeter. He doesn't attack so much as pressure, keeping his foe within striking distance. A hard left hand lands for Anders, then one for Natal. Another punch from Anders sends Natal dancing the full distance of the Octagon. He runs into the fence and goes to the mat, Anders following him a moment later. Natal fights up, but Anders sends him right back down with a left hand. This time Natal doesn't get up.

Ryan LaFlare vs. Alex Oliveira: Round 2
A leg-kick from Oliveira cuts a leg out from beneath LaFlare, but the American is able to pop back up before forfeiting any sort of advantage. LaFlare looks for a takedown, but he's pushed away. Oliveira lands a leg-kick then collapses LaFlare with an uppercut that has his opponent out before he even hits the mat.
Ryan LaFlare vs. Alex Oliveira: Round 1
LaFlare grabs hold of a clinch and walks Oliveira over to the cage. From there he trips Oliveira, but finds himself defending an armbar. LaFlare struggles free and winds up in side-control, where he hangs out for about a minute. He starts tapping Oliveira's midsection with some punches , but mostly just exercises control for the final three minutes of the round.

Damian Grabowski vs. Chase Sherman: Round 3
Grabowski initiates a clinch, forcing a close-quarters exchange. Sherman pushes off and lands a right hand on the break. A takedown from Grabowski nearly succeeds, but Sherman works up from his knees. The output from both guys begins to wane a couple of minutes into the round. A right hand from Grabowski breathes some life into the bout, drawing Sherman out of his shell to attack with a combination. The final minute runs off the clock without anything notable.

Damian Grabowski vs. Chase Sherman: Round 2
A nice right hand hits for Grabowski. That's been his go-to in this bout. Sherman is having trouble avoiding it completely, but he's scored several hard counters off of it. Sherman attacks with some leg-kicks and a bodyshot as Grabowski struggles to find his range. He attempts to change the direction of the fight with a takedown, but Sherman shrugs it off and cracks Grabowski with a combination.

Grabowski lands first, clipping Sherman with a right hook. Sherman sticks him with a jab, then throws a head-kick that Grabowski blocks just in time. Sherman scores again, first with a leg-kick then a right hand. A big knee from Sherman follows. Grabowski looks for a takedown, but he doesn't make much progress. Grabowski manages to land a couple of right hooks, but Sherman counters both by ripping off a couple of shots. Sherman flurries near the end of the round, backing Grabowski to the fence.
