Alexander Gustafsson Knocks Out Glover Teixeira in UFC Fight Night 109 Main Event
Alexander Gustafsson defended his home turf at UFC Fight Night 109, finishing Glover Teixeira in the final round of their light heavyweight showdown. The victory puts Gustafsson firmly in the title picture for the third time in his career. Volkan Oezdemir may not be there just yet, but the up-and-comer scored a huge victory by quickly dispatching Misha Cirkunov in the day's co-main event. Teixeira comes out aggressively, understanding a decision win is off the table. Gustafsson exhibits the same mobility that has kept him out of trouble thus far. Teixeira corners his quarry momentarily and lands a big right hand. Rather than shrink away, Gustafsson goes right back at Teixeira, flooring his counterpart with a big uppercut, drawing a sudden end to the fight.

Gustafsson continues to lead, targeting the legs, midsection and head of Teixeira, all in the first 15 seconds of the fourth round. He then winds up taking Teixeira's back while standing, but winds up with double underhooks instead. The clinch gives way to a positional battle against the fence, with knees from both guys mixed in. Gustafsson breaks free and unleashes a combination, then backs off from the counter fire. Once again, Gustafsson finishes the round strong, scoring with a handful of punches through the final minute, his attack highlighted by a straight right hand that put a wobble in his opponent's step.

Gustafsson moves from the leg to the head, hitting with a kick and a hook. Teixeira fires back, but Gustafsson answers with a big right that leads to a knockdown. Gustafsson settles into the guard, dropping elbows in pursuit of the finish. Teixeira weathers the attack and manages to scramble back to his feet. Gustafsson quickly trips him and looks to do more damage on the mat, but again the Brazilian manages to stand, and moments later, land a left hook. The Swede, though, resumes his attack, scoring with another trio of hard connections in the final minute of the round.

An elbow from Gustafsson lands hard on the face of Teixeira, who backs off for the first time tonight. Gustafsson continues to find the range, cracking Teixeira again, this time with an uppercut. Teixeira manages to chase Gustafsson down and connect, but Gustafsson fires right back, dropping Teixeira at the end of a brutal combination. Teixeira wills himself back up, and is welcomed by another barrage. Teixeira recovers and lands a hard right hand of his own.

Gustafsson opens with a leg-kick before Teixeira scoops him up and dumps him head-over-heels onto the mat. Despite the theatrics of the takedown, Gustafsson remains calm and quickly fights his way up. Back up, the men exchange hard uppercuts, Gustafsson adding a couple punches behind his combination. Time is called when Gustafsson pokes Teixeira in the eye. The recess is a short one, and the action heats up immediately upon return, both men landing hard punches. Gustafsson lands again, then turns and sprints away from the counter fire. Teixeira feels for a takedown, but Gustafsson pushes him away.

A nice right hand from Saunders snaps Sobotta's head back. Sobotta comes back with another big left that sends Saunders scrambling like a drunkard across the Octagon. Sobotta lands it again, then sends Sobotta to the mat after a big knee to the chin. The referee quickly dives in to signal an end to the action.

A big left hand from Sobotta drops Saunders about 10 seconds in. Saunders recovers quickly and the fighters settle in as though the knockdown never happened. Saunders goes high with a kick that Sobotta absorbs on the arms. Saunders unleashes again, and this time hits to the midsection. Sobotta again lands with a left hand that drops Saunders. This time Sobotta pounces and tries to finish, but Saunders recovers and defends from the guard. He survives the remainder of the round there.

Both men are wary to begin the final frame, Alhassan walking Akhmedov around the outside of the cage, but neither man forcing an engagement. When they final do let loose, neither is able to connect with anything clean. Akhmedov shoots for a takedown, but Alhassan is able to scramble free and crack the Russian with a big right hand. Akhmedov manages to grab momentum back by completing a takedown and climbing into mount. Alhassan works up after absorbing some pestering shots from his fatigued opponent. The fight ends with the men clinched against the fence.

A big leg-kick from Akhmedov rocks Alhassan's foundation. Alhassan comes back with a pair of right hands that land with authority. Rather than shy away, Akhmedov unleashes back at his opponent before taking him to the ground. Alhassan is able to stand and land another right hand, but Akhmedov once again secures a takedown. The process repeats, Alhassan finding some success with his right hand, but Akhmedov not allowing him to remain upright to really allow his counterpart to let loose. This time when Akhmedov completes the takedown he is able to keep Alhassan's back to the mat for the rest of the round.

A big leg-kick from Alhassan is met by a big right hand from Akhmedov, who manages to get on top of his opponent after tripping him up. Alhassan pops up immediately, but it isn't long before Akhmedov takes him down again. After Alhassan scrambles up, he clips Akhmedov with a right hand. Akhmedov answers with a right of his own, leading to a wild exchange where both fighters narrowly miss with fight-ending punches.

A head-kick from Enkamp glances off the target, but Taleb managed to avoid the brunt of it. Enkamp then shoots, but his effort is stuffed authoritatively. Enkamp touches Taleb's legs with a few kicks, but Taleb catches the final one and lands a hard kick of his own. Taleb ducks a punches and drags Enkamp to the canvas. He fights through a guillotine and scores with some elbows from the side. Enkamp recovers guard and begins looking for a submission.

A big left hand from Taleb tests Enkamp's chin early on. The Canadian adds a knee from the clinch before shoving his opponent away. As Taleb begins to find his range, Enkamp attempts to changes the course with a takedown, but he's easily shoved off. Enkamp tries again, but winds up on his back, Taleb settling into side-control. As Enkamp attempts to stand Taleb looks to take the back. The scramble winds up a stalemate and Taleb ends up in half-guard, then eventually full-guard.

Enkamp again tries for a takedown, and this time completes it. Taleb bounces up before his opponent can do anything with the position. The men tie up in the clinch and exchange knees. Taleb dumps Enkamp to the floor and climbs into the guard. Enkamp threatens with his legs, but Taleb forces him to reconsider with a couple of hammerfists.

A few kicks from Munhoz encourage Stasiak to look for another takedown. The threat of a guillotine once again forces him to abandon the effort. Munhoz is able to complete a takedown of his own and postures for an elbow. The referee steps in for a very quick restart. Back up, Munhoz lands a couple of knees to the face. Another takedown from Munhoz allows him to get on Stasiak's back. Stasiak is able to stand, but each time he does, Munhoz drags him right back down. Stasiak eventually breaks free and the men trade near the end of the round.

Stasiak lands a kick early, then eats a jab. The Pole is able to tally a couple of straight punches before Munhoz blasts him back with a knee. Another Stasiak takedown leads to another Munhoz guillotine attempt, but this time he releases in order to move to the back. Stasiak stands and breaks free of his opponent's clutches. After reengaging, Munhoz hits with a couple of leg-kicks. He looks for a takedown, but is easily rebuffed. Stasiak then tries again for a takedown of his own, but is also denied.

The referee is unimpressed by his output there and forces a restart. Smith quickly scores a takedown and moves to half-guard. This time Smith looks to set up a head-and-arm choke, but Camozzi is wise to it. Smith rides out the remainder of the round on top.

Smith dives forward for a sloppy takedown, but he still manages to complete the maneuver. Smith lands a few punches, but the crowd is letting him know they expect more. Camozzi tries to slide up using the fence, but Smith turns him away and lands an elbow. More from Smith, who is putting some power behind his strikes now, opening a cut on Camozzi's face. He mounts, then takes the back. Smith looks to isolate an arm, but Camozzi rolls and recover half-guard.

Smith quickly completes a takedown, putting Camozzi on his back, up against the fence. Camozzi works for an omaplata, but he loses it, allowing Smith to land a few right hands over the shoulder. The fighters tie up against the cage, battling for position. The battle of attrition concludes with another takedown from Smith, who lands in the guard. He advances to side-control, then winds up in half-guard. Smith lands some pitter-patter work before the round ends.

Reza Madadai vs. Joaquim Silva: Round 3
Silva comes out to lay a barrage on Madadi, backing him up to the fence. Madadi covers up and answers with a takedown. Silva uses a guillotine to stand, but holds on too long, falling back to the mat. He's able to stand again, eating a knee from Madadi on the way up this time, then being plunged straight back to the mat. Madadi is able to keep Silva down briefly, but not long. A big left from Silva puts Madadi down briefly and he looks to jump the back. Silva gets too high and falls off the back, but he's able to stand. Madadi's takedown falters and Silva winds up on top. Silva lands a massive right hand before Madadi climbs up. Again Madadi's takedown effort allows Silva to simply fall on top of him.
