Mexico opened their CONCACAF Gold Cup title defense with an easy 3-1 win over El Salvador in San Diego, California on Sunday night. Hedgardo Marin opened the scoring for El Tri, but El Salvador answered right away through a nice finish by Nelson Bonilla. Elias Hernandez, who was the best player on the pitch, put Mexico back in the lead and Orbelin Pineda sealed the victory with a second-half strike. Both teams will be back in action on Thursday, with Mexico playing Jamaica and El Salvador facing Curacao.

    Corona races up to the top of the box to capture Zelaya's long ball from midfield. It was a wishful pass from the El Salvador forward who is trying to help his side's goal differential late in the game with a loss basically in the books.
