NFC Pro Bowl Roster: Biggest Question Marks in Pro Bowl Voting

Ryan RudnanskyDec 27, 2011

The 2012 Pro Bowl rosters were announced on Tuesday and, as always, there's room for controversy.

On the NFC side of things, the inclusions of such players as Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees and LeSean McCoy were expected, but some picks were off base.

Here are the biggest question marks on this season's NFC Pro Bowl roster.

3. RB: Matt Forte, Chicago Bears

This isn't taking anything away from Matt Forte. He's had a fantastic season and continued to produce despite the loss of starting quarterback Jay Cutler.

But this has more to do with Adrian Peterson not making it.

Yes, Peterson got injured, but before Saturday's injury, Peterson continued to prove that he's the best running back in the league. He rushed for 970 yards in 12 games, averaging 4.7 yards per carry and totaled 12 rushing touchdowns. He did this on an abysmal offense.

I can't be too critical of Forte making the Pro Bowl, but I believe Peterson deserved to make it another time this season.

2. LB: Clay Matthews, Green Bay Packers

It may be crazy to call a candidate for Defensive Player of the Year last season as a surprise Pro Bowl pick, but Clay Matthews simply hasn't played as well as last season.

Yes, Matthews has constantly seen double-teams, but I don't see how you can give him a spot when he's totaled just 50 tackles this season.

San Francisco 49ers rookie Aldon Smith, who could break the sack record for rookies, deserves a spot on the Pro Bowl roster. He has 14 sacks this season in his first year and he's been virtually unblockable, particularly exemplified in his performance against Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 15.

It's hard for me to pick a rookie over Clay Matthews, but, as far as this season goes, Smith deserves a Pro Bowl spot more.

1. DT: Jay Ratliff, Dallas Cowboys; B.J. Raji, Green Bay Packers

I'm not saying Ratliff or Raji have had bad seasons.

But how you give them spots over the Seattle Seahawks' Brandon Mebane and, particularly, Ndamukong Suh of the Detroit Lions, is mind-boggling to me.

How does Suh not make the Pro Bowl this season? It's hard to even fathom.

Yes, Suh has had some character issues, but that should not keep him from making the Pro Bowl. His exclusion from the NFC roster is one of the biggest snubs of the year.
