NFL Power Rankings: Playoff Teams No Better Than One-and-Done

Wes ODonnellDec 26, 2011

Nothing hurts a proud franchise more than a one-and-done postseason run.

Unfortunately, it happens often.

Whether it be a wild card team, a division winner, or a top two-seed with a bye; a one-and-done postseason appearance is embarrassing.

Here a few teams destined for that embarrassment this year.

Falcons

If Atlanta loses tonight they are all but assured to revisit New Orleans again in two weeks for a 3 vs. 6 Wild Card matchup.

The NFC East winner will be No. 4, Detroit holds No.5, and if the Falcons lose tonight they'll stay at No. 6 with the San Francisco 49ers playing St. Louis in Week 17 to likely lock up No. 2.

The Falcons are better served playing New Orleans in a dome than traveling to San Francisco on grass, but the Saints are undefeated this year at home.

For the second straight season Atlanta is in danger of being a one-and-done team.

Broncos/Raiders

Whether the Broncos or Raiders win the AFC West is irrelevant to the Baltimore Ravens or Pittsburgh Steelers.

When it comes to the postseason, the AFC North powers know a lot more than the fresh-faced Broncos or Raiders and that will play a major role.

Tim Tebow and the Broncos have fallen hard and the Carson Palmer-led Raiders are a complete hit-or-miss.

When the AFC West representative four seed takes on the AFC North guaranteed five seed they will be demolished.

The Ravens played this role last year and beat the hell out of the Chiefs. Don't expect anything different.

Texans

A dominant run game and defense has taken this team far, but in the postseason they'll need rookie T.J. Yates to make some plays.

Houston has an opportunity to draw fellow rookie Andy Dalton and the Bengals in the wild card round, but they could also draw the playoff-tested New York Jets should Cincinnati falter in Week 17.

Either way, inexperienced quarterback play is always trouble and if forced to pick between Yates and Dalton the latter gets the win.

Houston deserves this postseason berth, but they're in trouble without their quarterback.
