Wrestling: It is Entertainment—But the Hazards are Real
As I turn on my computer I look for rumors, gossip, and any concrete evidence from wrestling. I watch WWE and TNA, analyzing the match just to be able to inform people about it.
See the kind of wrestling fan I am, is what we like to call a hardcore fan. I came across Bleacher Report four months ago on Facebook. It said wrestling writers wanted.
I was ecstatic.

I was currently writing news for a wrestling website. I didn't like it too much because I had to write just the news, no opinion on it. I hated it, and B/R gave me a chance to give my opinion.
The life of a wrestling fan is tough; if you say "Oh—I like wrestling" you're automatically considered weird or stupid. It makes no sense to me. Does the wrestling fan ridicule you for watching MMA?
Not so much right? It is true that wrestling fans are opinionated. Especially about certain wrestlers or events. Just like football fans are of Brett Favre or a favorite team. Wrestling fans are unique.
Although there has been no change personally or physically you become obsessed. See the real fans are the ones who can tell you what happened the previous week on iMPACT, RAW, ECW, or SmackDown.
Now they may not watch one or two, but they don't skip a week or two. I personally watch all of them. And yes, many people know it is scripted. But considering the whole thing fake is kind of wrong.
You cannot fake jumping off of a 20ft ladder onto a man perched on a table down below. Sure the wrestler has learned how to land or take the hit. That is why they have been trained.
Yes it is scripted, and yes the wrestlers know what is going to happen and have planned when and where everything will take place. But most non-wrestling fans see wrestling as being stupid because it is scripted.
Please tell me when you watch the next episode of House, Two and a Half Men, or According to Jim that it is stupid just because it is scripted.
They know what is going to happen right?
Well what is the difference in wrestling? Nothing. It is entertainment, but the hazards are real.
It has been said a hundred times. Now boxing and MMA are supposed to not already be determined before the fight and many like it more.
That is understandable. But say you don't want to know who wins before the fight right? Well the same can be done with wrestling. As long as you don't see spoilers before a match then it is just as exciting as MMA or boxing.
Heck sometimes there is more blood. Also, it's more exciting, you never get a knockout shot in the first round like in MMA or boxing. You have to pay 50 to 80 dollars to see one to three fights.
It is over in five minutes, not worth the money? In wrestling you always get excitement. Even if a match isn't long, you still have many more you can see.
One big reason I like it.
Now to be truthful I am a fan of both MMA and boxing. It is easy to watch both, once you watch wrestling, MMA or boxing it quite similar.
The only thing you will tell with wrestling is it will play to the crowd more. How can someone sit there and say they don't like wrestling if they like MMA or Boxing? Unless you have a traumatic experience with wrestling, that would be the only reason.
See our life, referring to a fan of wrestling, is a bit hard because of the fact that people ridicule it. And most are the people who never watch it. Or have never even seen a wrestling match.
It is just like NASCAR. Although I hate NASCAR, I have to say going to a race is more exciting. You see the sites, the sounds, and all that goes into a race to make it the best it can be.
It may look like nothing, but in the end you know the winner of the race worked hard to get there. It is the same with wrestling. You may not like it if you never watch.
If you never see the sights, the sounds, and what it takes to go into it, you may never know why it is so fun to watch it. Some say that it is just not their cup of tea. They tried watching it, but can't get into it.
And that is ok, it is not for everyone I guess. But the difference with them is that they tried watching it. They saw what it took, and why people love to watch it. Yet don't like it. Those are the people who don't make fun of the wrestling fan.
Because they know why we love it so much. I want people to understand that you don't have to tell a wrestling fan about wrestling. We know. We especially don't want to hear it from someone who isn't a fan.
