Is ECW the Future of the WWE?

Joe Burgett Dec 31, 2008

Ok ok, we all know since ECW has come back to the WWE as a brand is really has not been the ECW of old. It debuted with the WWE as "Extreme" to of course get fans excited. But died down from it's extreme self.

So why do I think ECW will be the future of the WWE? Well it is obvious when you think about it. See guys like CM Punk, two time World Champion has come through there. And really is making a name for himself on RAW.

Evan Bourne, Kofi Kingston, Jack Swagger, Ricky Ortiz, and even diva Tiffany have been on ECW and really come out as big successes. Kofi even has gotten drafted to RAW and is a former tag champ with Punk.

He also has been a former Intercontinental Champion, by winning it from arguably one of the best IC Champs of all time, WWE Superstar of the Year Chris Jericho. Evan Bourne has hit the ECW by storm.

No one has come out and captured fans attention like this since guys like Rey Mysterio and Jeff Hardy hit the WWE. Both are now World Champions. So that shows he has a future.

I just feel if they push him to be drafted to SmackDown or RAW and don't make him wrestle to much in a short time he will be great. I still feel the WWE basically could see Bourne getting injured.

The day he got hurt on an ECW show he had to wrestle 25 minuted with Matt Hardy on Sunday, against Rey Mysterio about 20 minutes on Monday and also at the ECW taping that same night he was a main force in the six man tag match.

Where he wrestled about 15 minutes alone. He got hurt and still finished the match on a bum foot. I feel if they are going to keep their stars healthy they will give them at least a day or two to rest before throwing them out there again.

I know they are professionals, but guys like Bourne who are new to the WWE schedules need to be pushed periodically and not just thrown out there. That is why many are getting hurt I believe.

I think Bourne could be a tag champ, maybe an ECW Champion. He was a Shooting Star Press from beating Matt Hardy at Cyber Sunday. He missed it and a Twist of Fate sealed the victory for Hardy.

But it did so how Bourne coul dhang with a great wrestler like Matt Hardy. Now it looks like Jack Swagger is coming into his own. The tall lean powerful Swagger can basically tell you he is going to hurt you and do it.

He is pretty good on the mic, and was a FCW Heavyweight Champion. Which others in ECW currently have not done. I feel he may be the guy to beat Matt Hardy for the ECW title.

He really impressed me when he did his finisher on Tommy Dreamer. A man who is upwards of 200 lbs. And did it effortlessly, didn't even strain. That shows true power to me anyway.

I feel if he can go against a guy similar to his size and skill it will be interesting to see how he does against him. If he does well possibly he could get up there with the better guys like Triple H and Batista.

Now onto Ricky Ortiz, I feel he has charisma and does well with the crowd. But come on, the Big "O" you still use it as a finisher yet you lost. the finisher was from him being undefeated.

The Rally Towel? I know your a former football player, but that is the Steeler's thing, not yours. It worked for them I know, but really?

I do think that Ortiz connects with the crowd, but needs to step up in competition and get a new finisher. I feel that a brain-buster would work for him considering he does well with suplexes.

Goldberg used it and went undefeated in WCW for like his first four years. Exajurated I know. But that is a good finisher and it will show off the power I know he has. Guys who have finishers people like get pushed.

Look at Evan Bourne's Shooting Star Press, or Randy Orton's RKO. People love to see them at least once in a match. and watch just to see them. You have more to work on Ortiz, but work on the finisher to get a little push.

Now to Tiffany, she has wrestled in FCW. Yet has not stepped foot in an ECW match yet. I feel if she can come out and show her skill, she might get up in the ranks of top divas.

Of course we go to CM Punk. As I mentioned he is a two time World Champion already in the WWE. He has won the World Championship, and ECW Championship. He has won the Tag Titles with Kofi.

He may win the Intercontinental Title from William Regal too. I feel the reason why he didn't hold the World Title to long was because of his popularity. See he is popular true, but came to RAW from ECW when the WWE Draft happened.

Many non-ECW watchers had not seen him, and also since he was still considered a new WWE Superstar he had not clicked with fans like a Cena, Orton, Batista, or Triple H yet. Now Orton won the World Title pretty young too.

He didn't hold his first to long, but it was an OK run. Of course he was in the famous faction Evolution which I feel boosted his career. Also his Legend Killer gimmick helped too.

I feel once Punk gets some more popularity, connects with fans more, and gets in more main event matches he will be a top contendor once more.

Now of course many think that if he didn't win Money In The Bank he would never be a World Heavyweight Champion. And of course that may be true.

But keep in mind he had been an ECW Champion without MITB. So that proved he can win without help. And he did it against another rising star in John Morrison. Who I feel has a great future and could be a mutli-time World Champion.

He already is a five time tag champ, former ECW Champion, and IC Champion. So Punk didn't beat a push over.

We have seen about six new superstars in the WWE who are main stays this year alone. And most have come through ECW. Of course we may see some go to SmackDown and RAW.

But what 2009 holds is more new superstars going to ECW. If you want to see the future of the WWE watch ECW. Sure it may not be as good as RAW or SmackDown writing wise.

But some of the best athletes and young stars on ECW. But as usual I am going to ask you.
