NFL All-Pro Voting 2011: Who Is the NFL's Best QB?

Chris TrapassoDec 21, 2011

Green Bay Packers gunslinger Aaron Rodgers is the best quarterback in the NFL today—or is he?

The answer may not be as clear cut as you'd initially think.

Let's dissect Rodgers and his all-pro competition.

Aaron Rodgers

Rodgers is having one of, if not the greatest season a quarterback has ever had in 2011. He's got 40 passing touchdowns, rushed for three more and only has six interceptions.

The last time we saw him on the field, he easily turned in his worst performance of the year, completing less than 49 percent of his passes in the Packers' stunning loss in Kansas City.

However, he wasn't helped by the injuries piling up along his offensive line, nor the absence of star receiver Greg Jennings.

No one distributes the ball better than Rodgers, as evidenced by the 15 different Packers that have caught passes from No. 12 in 2011.

He's got a quick release, monster arm that's laser-like in its accuracy and has tremendous pocket awareness.

An underrated athlete, too.

Don't forget about the surgeon in New Orleans.

When it comes to being a pure-passer, I'm not sure there's a better all-around signal-caller than Brees. Every team knows he's going to throw 40-plus times a game, but they can do nothing about it.

He's ready to shatter Dan Marino's single-season passing yards record of 5,084 yards and is doing so at a ridiculous 71.5 percent completion percentage.

The guy is on a tear of late, throwing for at least 322 yards in each of his last five games with 16 touchdowns and no interceptions.

Brees has 37 touchdowns and 11 picks on the season.

He's completed passes to 12 different Saints in 2011.

Not necessarily known for his scrambling, Brees is always calm in the pocket and his speedy release and total understanding of what the opposing defense is trying to do allows him to frequently throw receivers open.

Depending on his final two games, Brees could actually overtake Rodgers as the game's best QB.

Oh yea, Tom Brady.

Right when we all thought Brady had finally been figured out and the Patriots looked like any other average team, they've rattled off six straight victories and Brady's back to his old tricks.

Think Brees is hot?

How about the Patriots signal-caller?

During the win streak, Brady has 15 touchdowns and only one interception.

Not bad.

He has the ability to find all his receivers, but New England's offense is focused around Rob Gronkowski, Wes Welker and Aaron Hernandez.

Brady finds them often.

Both Gronkowski and Welker have over 1,100 receiving yards this season and have a total of 24 touchdown catches between them.

If it wasn't for Rodgers and Brees, Brady would be the consensus top quarterback in the game.

He's got 35 touchdowns and 11 picks in 2011.

Right now, I'm still going with Rodgers as the best QB, but I would have no problem giving that distinction to Brees if he finishes the season strong.
