NFL All Pro Voting 2011: Who Deserves To Be This Year's MVP?

Chris TrapassoDec 19, 2011

Everyone is of the belief that Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers will win the NFL MVP this season, but is he starting to get some legitimate competition?

After easily his worst performance of the year in a 19-14 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, Rodgers completed a shade less than 49 percent of his passes and only threw for 235 yards with one touchdown.

Don't forget, that touchdown was his 40th of the year and he's only thrown six interceptions, but it's definitely the appropriate time to look at the other candidates, that right now, deserve some serious consideration.

Drew Brees

I still think Rodgers will win the award, but in terms of value to his team, Brees is just as deserving. Over the last five games, Brees has played better. He's got 16 touchdowns, no interceptions and has thrown for at least 322 yards in each of those contests.

Brees has 37 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions on the year.

Not surprisingly, the Saints have won their last six games.

Rodgers has thrown for under 300 yards three times and has 12 touchdowns with three interceptions in that same span.

New Orleans' signal-caller is just as incredible as a distributor, having completed passes to 12 different guys in 2011 and there's a good chance Marques Colston will join Jimmy Graham as the second Saints receiver with 1,000 yards.

Five pass-catchers have at least five touchdowns on the year and No. 9 will most likely break Dan Marino's single-season passing yards record.

Not exactly 13-1, but quite the season for Drew Brees, wouldn't you say?

Brady, last year's unanimous MVP, is at it again.

He had his best statistical game in a while in easily the most hyped game on the Patriots' schedule this season.

Brady went 23-of-34 for 320 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions in the 41-23 beatdown of the Denver Tebows.

This won't go down as his best season as a professional (although 35 touchdowns and 11 interceptions with 4,593 yards isn't bad) it may be his greatest leadership performance.

New England's defense is still among the worst units in the league and without stellar play from Brady each week, the Patriots would be fighting for a wild-card spot.

He's put his team on his back and has gotten it done with Wes Welker, Rob Gronkowski or Aaron Hernandez. Brady even got Chad Ochocinco into the act on Sunday.

Odd that Brady may actually be an underrated MVP candidate with the season he's having and the situation in New England.

If these two stay on a tear to end the season, it'll be interesting to see how the MVP voting turns out.
