Ohio State Football: Commitment of Noah Spence Gives Urban Meyer Elite D-Line

Urban Meyer had an extremely respectable class of defensive linemen before he landed Noah Spence. The new head coach had already landed two top-ten defensive ends, along with a five-star defensive tackle, but Spence's commitment to Ohio State gives them an unprecedented class of defensive linemen.

Spence is the top-ranked defensive end in the nation according to Rivals. He has been one of the most sought-after recruits this year and committed before most experts expected him to. The product out of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania made his decision while visiting Columbus and has now given Meyer a vaunted defensive line that has the entire Big Ten shaking in its boots.

Along with successfully recruiting a stellar class of defensive linemen this year, Meyer also inherits a defensive front that is nothing to sneeze at. For starters, John Simon returns next year after an All-American season. Meyer also has the pleasure of returning immense defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins, who can completely dominate the middle.

On top of all that, young players like Michael Bennett and Steve Miller showed a ton of potential this past season and will only get better with more experience.

Noah Spence is the type of recruit that is college ready. At 6'4", 245 lbs, he is an absolute man-child who will make his presence felt immediately at OSU.

Depth at the defensive line is key if a team wants to contend for a national championship, and the commitment of the best defensive end in the nation gives OSU even more depth at an already-stacked unit. However, Spence will be more than depth. Spence is a future All-American that raises this unit to an elite status that will inflict nightmares on opposing offenses.
