🚨 Mitchell Headed to 1st Conference Finals

Jason Kidd Has the East in the Fetal Position

Joe WillettFeb 17, 2008

The Eastern Conference has sat idly by while Western Conference teams kept adding to an already unbelievably deep pool of players.

Pau Gasol and Shaquille O'Neal sent shockwaves through the NBA and shivers up the spines of Eastern Conference GMs.

Now, more teams are getting involved in the apparent submission of the East.

(Looks like my previous article is getting more and more accurate by the day.)

The Dallas Mavericks are reportedly only a few moves away from acquiring Jason Kidd from the New Jersey Nets.

This trade will not include any players that are too important on the Dallas end, which means that we will see Jason Kidd, Dirk Nowitzki, and Jerry Stackhouse.

Jason Kidd could be as effective as Steve Nash is for the Suns, and the Mavericks are back in the race in the unfairly-deep West.

It seams as though the West is stockpiling teams at the top.  At this point, only the Boston Celtics and Detroit Pistons would make the playoffs if they were in the West.   And the Houston Rockets, the team that is ninth in the West and isn't currently in the playoffs, would be fourth in the East.

The specifics are Trenton Hassell, retired Keith Van Horn, Devin Harris, DeSagena Diop, Maurice Agner, and two first-round picks to the Nets.  Kidd and Malik Allen will be sent to the Mavs.

According to ESPN, the trade should be done by Tuesday.

Sorry, East.  You have one shot to win the title, and that is a thin Celtics team.  I think I might just watch the Western Conference playoffs, but not the Finals.

The Finals just don't seem like they will last more than four games, and they obviously won't be very exciting.
