WWE TLC 2011 Results: Why Triple H vs Kevin Nash Should Not Have Happened

Matthew HemphillDec 18, 2011

Watching Triple H versus Kevin Nash was a trial in patience.  It wasn't because the match was horrible.

Triple H is a master ring general and can maneuver even the worst opponent around the ring in a way that would make it enjoyable for fans.

Its just the fact that the match reminded us of the 1990s.  As much as nostalgia is a wonderful thing, it shouldn't be on pay-per-view events as one of the main card matches.

After a PPV, fans ask themselves three things.

Was I entertained?

Did the product feel natural?

Did I feel like I invested my time into something that could grow?

The first two questions are debatable.  Some might feel the match was enjoyable.  Some might feel as if it was tired and a remnant from a leftover age.

The third isn't.

Triple H is 42.  Nash is a decade older at 52.

On the same card where Booker T, who is 46, will be trying to put over Cody Rhodes either in defeat or victory, these men faced each other.  The problem is other than for nostalgia, there wasn't a point.

They fought each other and showed that each was still considered a top "tough" guy.  In a card stacked with young stars trying to make their name to proven wrestlers who are already over with the fans, they not only took up a slot younger talent could have filled, but did so in a match with each other.

They could have used some of their fame to give a younger superstar a rub.  Instead they proved that even with how the match ended, the Kliq is alive and well.

Triple H and Nash still stick together and make money with each other.  They still protect each others' spot in the company.  Their match wasn't the only thing that reminded fans of an older era.  They also reminded us of the old-school politics that used to govern the back room as well.

It was something that fans shouldn't have had to pay to see.  They already know that Nash and Triple H are strong against each other.  It's a story that has been seen a bunch of times.

Now the fans should get to see something else.

Something they would pay to see.
