Fortress Ibrox

RangersMedia .co.ukDec 30, 2008
We Rangers fans do a lot, and I mean a lot, of moaning.
We moan about team selection, Sir David Murray, Walter Smith, the players, the lack of media attention, the unwanted media attention, the standard of referees, the fact that Chick Young can't spell, Setanta, other club's fans, biased commentary, the quality of the league, Celtic getting away with what seems like murder, and the fact we haven't had a title in over three years.

All understandable in my opinion. If you are the most successful club in the world and have set the bar for teams across the world to follow then when we don't reach our own standards we moan.

It is exactly the same at every big club in the world. Fans at Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Milan, Juve, Roma, Bayern, Barca, Madrid, and dare I say Celtic are all the same in so as far as we demand success and the continuation of working by our own high standards.

A lot was made in the media about Celtic's 10-game winning streak since Rangers taught them a lesson at Parkhead and Hibs muscled the millionaire footballers out of the game at Easter Road last week.

But what I am proud to say is we have a little run going of our own, a run that I for one am proud of. This run of form also shows how far we have come especially since the Paul Le Guen and last year of McLeish's reign.

What can that be? The media haven't rammed it down our throats like they do if Celtic pull a string of wins together. Well for all those who have missed this or haven't noticed, we are undefeated at Ibrox in competitive matches in 2008. With the last competitive team to record a win being Lyon in the champions league on the 12th December 2007.

You know what I got off my friends? "It's because the standard of Scottish football is so poor!" Utter rubbish! We saw off quality European opposition at Ibrox within this time—Werder Bremen, Sporting Lisbon, Fiorentina all tried and failed at Ibrox.

In fact, the only time we have been beaten at Ibrox in 2008 was in a friendly with Liverpool who came, saw, and literally taught us in what can only be described as a footballing master class.

A win against Celtic in our next and last match of 2008 could see us with a nice little record of being unbeaten at fortress Ibrox. Will we care? Sadly no I don't think we will.

Rangers fans are like magpies and only see the silverware as an achievement which I totally understand. We were brought up on a diet of success, of second place is failure and at any massive club that is the right attitude. Always remember we are the Rangers the mighty Glasgow Rangers we are the best team in the land—with second place reserved usually for Celtic.

It has been a bitter pill to swallow over the last three seasons but with records like this we are surely on the right track of claiming the position of Scottish Champions once again.
