Week 15 Fantasy Football Rankings: Top 6 Touchdown Targets Sure to Score
Now that we're smack dab in the middle of the playoffs, it's time to take a look at the best way to win a fantasy matchup: touchdowns.
Touchdowns are potentially cheap points for you to grab. In a standard league, it takes 60 receiving/rushing yards to equal a one-yard touchdown.
Now, we're going to look at a some names that will find the end zone this week. Some names are obvious, and not going to be available to be claimed by you. Others are likely available to a lot of you out there.
Just to be clear, we're not looking at quarterbacks here. Our targets are running backs, receivers, and tight ends.
Felix Jones, RB Dallas Cowboys
1 of 6Given how many benches he's riding and how many leagues he's available in, Jones is the best sleeper play of Week 15. Though, it actually doesn't stop there.
Jones is going to be one of the best players of Week 15 period. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers' defense that he's opposing is simply helpless against the run. Jones is a similar RB to Maurice Jones-Drew, who just torched the Buccaneers.
Both rely a lot on speed and catch passes. On top of that, the injury to DeMarco Murray means that Jones is the Cowboys' only option. While the Cowboys were nothing short of a disaster on Sunday night, Jones had 106 yards on only 16 carries. That's nearly seven yards a pop.
Expect similar production against the Buccaneers. He's their only real running back. Jones will bring in a lot of yards, and be given plenty of chances to score. He'll take advantage of that. You don't want him opposing you this week.
Arian Foster, RB Houston Texans
2 of 6We've reached the time of the week where I point out the running back opposing the Panthers. I will also say that he'll be a good play. In this case, that RB happens to be one of the best in the league.
Not only is Foster a great RB going against a bad team, he's also on a team with a shaky quarterback situation. I know that T.J. Yates has played well, but he's not going to throw the ball much.
The Texans' ground attack will get them into scoring position a lot against the Panthers. Foster will have a lot to do with getting them there. Once there, he's the team's best option to score.
James Jones, WR Green Bay Packers
3 of 6The injury to Greg Jennings is going to open up opportunities for Jones, who's had a strong year this season anyway. He's earned Aaron Rodgers' trust, and that's a good thing to have.
The Packers aren't going to just abandon the pass with Jennings out. They have far too many weapons to do that. With no Jennings, Jones is easily one of their top two receivers.
Look at the weekly lines of Jennings and Jordy Nelson. That's a good spot to be in. Passes that went to Jennings in the red zone will now go to Jones. He'll take advantage of those opportunities and earn at least one score.
Chris Johnson, RB Tennessee Titans
4 of 6The Colts' run defense is just horrible. Actually, everything about the Colts is horrible. So let's focus on the run defense here.
The Indianapolis Colts' defense has allowed 14 rushing touchdowns this season. One per game. Furthermore, they have allowed six touchdowns on the ground in their last five games.
Johnson is heating up as the season is nearing its end. There's just nothing about this match-up that doesn't look beautiful for those fortunate enough to have Johnson on their teams.
The Colts' run defense was never very good. Even when the team was contending for Super Bowls. Now that they're bad, the run defense hasn't gotten any better.
A hot running back against a terrible defense will result in a lot of yards, and at least one trip to the end zone.
Jerome Simpson, WR Cincinnati Bengals
5 of 6Jerome Simpson and the Bengals are finally getting a break. Take a look at what they have had to face in recent weeks. The Steelers twice, the Ravens, Browns, and Texans. Every one of those teams are a nightmare for opposing weeks.
This week isn't so tough. The Rams' secondary is one of the worst in the league. So, Simpson will do what he did in each of the two weeks before that brutal stretch. Score a touchdown.
The Bengals will finally be in a position to score throughout the game. Simpson is a great option, as A.J. Green will attract most of the attention from the Rams' defense.
Rob Gronkowski, TE New England Patriots
6 of 6This guy is an absolute freak. On top of that, he's clearly earned the trust of Tom Brady. When that happens to a receiver (or tight end, in this case), gaudy touchdown numbers follow. Ask Randy Moss.
Every other player on this list was mentioned at least in part because of a favorable match-up. That's not the case with Gronkowski. He's here all on his own.
He's a huge target with speed. Guys like that are made to find the end zone. If that's not enough for you, look at his 15 touchdown catches. Also the fact that he's scored in six straight games, and had two scores in four of his last five.
