Bill Callahan's Boss Gets Fired…But Bill Gets Good Reviews (No, Seriously)

Jeff WilliamsDec 29, 2008

Today is Black Monday in the NFL.

Today is the day when the ultimate Darwin job, NFL Head Coach, sheds the weak and gives others a chance to become the few, the proud, the proven NFL coach.

Eric Mangini is an example of the weak. His players didn’t respect him and his peers don’t respect him. He might have a hard time finding another job after his horrible performance this year, on top of violating the man code by calling out his former employer and creating the SpyGate faisco.

He might never work in the NFL again.

He did hire one Bill Callahan over the off-season to help out with the offensive line and according to JetsInsider, Callahan ought to be retained:

"

It’s unclear who the new Jets coach is going to be, but whoever it is, clearly needs to keep Bill Callahan as his offensive line boss. He did a brilliant job in 2008.

Several offensive linemen lobbied with the media on Monday for Callahan to be retained.Against Miami, Jets left tackle D’Brickashaw Ferguson gave up no sacks and just one tackle to All-Pro linebacker Joey Porter who has been on fire.

If that doesn’t point to the Callahan’s significant talents, nothing will. Ferguson took a quantum leap under Callahan in 2008 and should have been the Pro Bowl starter at LT in the AFC instead of Buffalo’s Jason Peters.

"

We are happy to see that Bill Callahan has finally found his niche. Say what you want about his Nebraska tenure, somewhere within Callahan is a competent offensive mind.
