NFL Power Rankings Week 15: Which Teams Are Moving Most?

Andrea HangstDec 12, 2011

With the NFL regular season winding down, it's becoming easier to tell which teams truly have what it takes and which have fallen off significantly since their early-season success.

It sometimes takes just one win or loss to move a team far up or far down the power rankings, and this week is no different.

Here are the three biggest movers headed into Week 15.

Oakland Raiders (This Week: 21; Last Week: 14)

A number of injuries to offensive starters have left the Oakland Raiders exposed. They've lost their last two games in a row by big margins and haven't found a way to make up for losing running back Darren McFadden and wide receivers Jacoby Ford and Denarius Moore in recent weeks.

In the past two weeks, the Raiders have scored just 30 total points while giving up 80 points to their opponents.

They've lost control of their lead in the AFC West and are now long-shots to see the postseason after looking so promising just a short while ago.

Chicago Bears (This Week: 22; Last Week: 18)

The Chicago Bears' free-fall continues, dropping their third game in a row with quarterback Caleb Hanie under center. Even worse is that the offense is without running back Matt Forte, which means that the team's production has all but stopped.

Their latest loss came at the hands of the Tim Tebow-led Denver Broncos, who were shut out through four quarters in Week 14 before coming back to win 13-10 in overtime.

Not even the Bears' vaunted defense could power them through a full game and lead them to victory—that doesn't bode well for the team's chances to reach the postseason.

Houston Texans (This Week: 4; Last Week: 7)

Injuries might be the excuse for the Bears' and Raiders' struggles in recent weeks, but the Houston Texans, just as decimated by injuries to big-name starters, have managed to win despite the setbacks.

The Texans most recently knocked off the venerable Cincinnati Bengals, with rookie quarterback T.J. Yates throwing the game-winning touchdown with just seconds to spare.

Yates has looked solid in his two starts—he's comfortable with the Texans' system, which is similar to the offense he ran at North Carolina, and he doesn't try to overreach.

Helping Yates' cause are the Texans' duo of running backs, Arian Foster and Ben Tate, as well as their top-five defense that has thrived even after losing starting linebacker Mario Williams to injury earlier in the season.

Well-balanced in all phases of the game, the Texans aren't just the best team in the AFC—they've made a case for themselves as the best team in the league.
