What do Mark Sanchez and Joe Flacco have in common? They have played in the AFC Championship.
Put them all together, and what do they have in common? They are all currently lower-rated passers than Tim Tebow.
I'm going to start by saying I'm not a fan of Tim Tebow, so I can be objective here. I wasn't a fan of his at Florida and I'm not a fan of his at Denver. I'm also no religious zealot, so that isn't why I write this article.
For weeks we have heard so-called experts rip Tim Tebow.
You know the usual ESPN suspects like Merrill Hoge, who people conveniently forget was at best an average NFL running back. Guys like Cris Carter—a typical, mouthy wide receiver who drank his way out of Philadelphia and never won anything in his other stops—continue to take pot-shots at Tim Tebow on a weekly basis.
We also hear the game analysts talk about how he doesn't look like an NFL quarterback.
So what does an NFL quarterback look like? You mean the guy who has thrown only two interceptions in 198 attempts doesn't look like an NFL quarterback? Or the guy who is 7-1 as a starter doesn't look like an NFL quarterback?
Let me understand this—a guy who is playing winning football and not turning the ball over isn't an NFL quarterback, but a reformed "dog killer" who is constantly injured and a turnover-machine when he isn't looks like an NFL quarterback.
Even John Elway seems to have forgotten that it takes more than a polished passer to win. Ask yourself—is your lingering image of John Elway the run in the Super Bowl where he "willed" himself to a first down by becoming a human helicopter, or the cornucopia of interceptions he coughed up in his other Super Bowl appearances?
Here is a novel concept for the experts: Let's judge quarterbacks by results for a change. It makes you wonder—are we that lost in America with regard to work ethic that we can't get behind a guy who keeps his mouth shut, works hard and credits his teammates for success?
Finally, if hearing Tim Tebow praise Jesus is the alternative we get to hearing about the latest NFL drug bust, former player caught with an underage hooker or "diva/pervert" use his annual holdout as a personal attention platform, then I'll take Tim Tebow any day and twice on Sundays!
