Vikings vs. Lions: 5 Halftime Adjustments Detroit Must Make

Jeff KneisDec 11, 2011

The Lions have thoroughly dominated the first half. They have showed a very complete game on both offense and defense.

The Lions have shown they can consistently create and capitalize on turnovers.

Here are five things Detroit must do in the second half against Minnesota:

1) Establish the Run Game

With Kevin Smith out of today's action, the Lions will need to find an answer to their RB problem. The Lions need to have a balanced offense to make the defense respect the run and pass.

Maurice Morris should get enough carries to keep the defense on its heels and free up some room for Calvin Johnson to do some damage.

2) Protect Matthew Stafford

It is easy to see why protecting Matthew Stafford is in the Lions best interest. When he has time, has proven he will find receivers for huge gains.

If the Vikings keep getting pressure on Stafford, the Lions need to consider keeping an extra blocker or two to help stop the pass rush.

3) Keep Getting Turnovers

The Lions have done an excellent job getting turnovers and turning them into points. The Lions defense should continue to get the ball back to the offense.

The offense has shown they can do damage when given a short field to work with.

4) Stop the Vikings Passing Game

The only real bright spot for the Vikings has been flashes of a dangerous passing game. The Lions will need to find an answer to stopping Christian Ponder.

The Vikings need to limit Ponder and force him to keep turning the ball over.

5) Keep Finding Brandon Pettigrew

Brandon Pettigrew had a great first half. He consistently found ways to get open and had a great run after the catch.

Stafford needs to keep finding Pettigrew and exploit the Vikings safeties and linebackers.
