Salaar ShamsiDec 27, 2008

Entertainment.

That's what the viewers get from watching some hard-fought, competitive football in the holiday season but the real question is: What about the performers?

The men who battle it out on the pitch are also humans, most with families.

What a day was Boxing Day, the whole league was in action and during the Christmas period, what better for the supporters?

That's our talking point, right there!

On Friday, from Liverpool to West Brom, everybody played and after a gap of only 24 hours, they play again on Super Sunday!

We all know that in the winter period, the matches come thick and fast, fatigue becomes a huge factor and this is usually the turning point in the season for most teams, who scramble towards the top or fall into the pit of relegation!

Manchester United just returned from Japan after being crowned World Champions and luckily for them, they face Middlesbrough on Monday.

I'm not the only one, Aston Villa manager, Martin O'Neill has voiced his concern over the fatigue of his players and believes the Premier League should introduce a small break during the festive period.

Other leagues, including the Italian Serie A, have implemented this plot. Serie A will resume on Jan. 7.

The viewers will miss out on some quality action and excitement during the holidays, but it is a huge plus for the welfare of the players. Serious injuries like the one to Cesc Fabregas can have a disastrous impact on a club's season.

So, I'll leave it up to you. Should the Barclays Premier League introduce a winter break?
