Upset City: Rampage Jackson Shocks America, Other UFC 92 Random Thoughts
After watching UFC 92, I thought one thing: "Damn!"
This card was full of action and three upsets (depending on how you see it).
Here are my random thoughts:
Cheick Kongo looked amazing, but not ready for a title shot! Maybe put him against Nog or Gonzaga. He showed a lot last night; two more fights like that and a title shot is guaranteed!
RAMPAGE JACKSON!!! Yes, he shocked most of America with a first-round knockout of Wanderlei Silva. He looked great and showed superior striking. I was holding my breath the whole time, until he put him to sleep!
(I'm 2-for-2 so far.)
C.B. Dollaway looked good, but I think the fight could've went on a little longer. Granted he wasn't defending himself, but C.B. wasn't doing too much damage. Either way C.B. looked good.
(3-for-3...)
Then came Mir vs. Nogueria! Nogueria looked out of it the entire time. Mir looked great, his striking was on point and he fought smart. The first man to stop Big Nog, and he looked like he could've fought Brock Lesnar right then. Mir/Lesnar 2 should be awesome!
(3-for-4...Congrats Stoker!!!)
Rashad looked like he was out of his league against Forrest in the first two rounds, but then in the third he turned it on! He caught a kick, and the rest was history! He proceeded to pound on Forrest till the ref stepped in!
After it was all said and done, we had two new champions and a No. 1 contender!
Wanderlei Silva needs to really sit and think what to do next. A rematch with Chuck Liddell? Or does he retire? Too soon to judge, but his next move better be a smart one!
Nog, he needs a tune-up fight after that one! First time being stopped, his offense was almost non-existent. He needs to regroup and comeback strong. Or maybe we'll see Randy Couture/Nogueria?
Forrest Griffin looked good; he just got caught. Rashad is a great wrestler and took him down. Maybe Rashad isn't as boring as advertised! Forrest needs to train hard and come back to the octagon; he needs to come back and score a decisive win against a name-brand opponent. I think he'll be OK.
Matt Hamill looked good; he'll never be more than a mid-level guy, but he did look good.
Okami looked boring as always, but he did win. Which means we'll most likely see him and Anderson face off again...*Sighs.*
All in all, it was a good card, and I was satisfied.
Congrats to Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg!
They weren't too bad tonight!!!
